This Weeks Fisherman

Hi! I just thought that I would mention a couple of things to everyone. First off I would like to say that there has been plenty of questions about eelskin plugs on this board...well this weeks issue of The Fisherman has an article with pictures, so be sure to pick it up. I normally wouldn't bother trying because I just couldn't picture it very well but after seeing the diagram I think I just may!!!
The second thing from this issue I wanted to mention was an article (actually it is an ad) on the Daiwa Sealine-Z surf rods. About two years ago I had first seen this rod, and though I wouldn't normally have bought a Daiwa rod...I had to have this one. The only size I saw at the time was 11' but that was what I was looking for anyway, so on my Christmas list it went thinking "yeah right". Well my whole family pitched in and actually bought it for me!! I absolutely love this rod! I seemed to be having a problem casting "just short" of where I wanted to be. Now I find I actually have to hold back a little to get it "just nice"!!!!!!! Not to mention I thought it was incredibly light for it's size.

Just thought I would mention these things in case anyone was interested.

I'll need to read that article, I have not even read this weeks yet.... That Sealine is a very popular casting rod and is considered one of if not the best, off the shelf, reasonable cost, fishing rods... I know several people that love that rod!!! I had a Diawa Eliminator and was not overly impressed with it, I would have gotten the Sealine if I had known at the time...

You hitting the Cape anytime soon????

RE:This Weeks Fisherman

Hi! Yes,yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!! I am finally getting to the Cape next weekend! I have really been itching to go this whole summer pretty much but work, time, money, and obligations have kept me stranded on dry land!!!!!
The best news is that we aren't just going for sat. and Sun. we actually have four days! A nice long weekend! (can you tell I am desperate??HA!HA!) We normally hit the point and occasionally Truro (we stay in North Truro). Hmmm....any chance we may meet up with each other on the beach?? If not I will let you know how it goes (unless of course I fail then I may have to dodge the subject in humiliation) Do you do the oversand routine??
As far as the rod goes...yes I am very happy with it as I have already stated, the only problem is I want a new reel for it now! (Problem: that whole money thing again) I now have a Penn reel on it which isn't too bad but we tried a different combo this summer and tried my hubby's Baitcaster on my rod.....oooooh smoooooth........that was kind of a bad move because I did not know what I was missing!!! Now I want one!

Hi Chris! I will make sure I let you know how things went! So glad to hear you will be taking the kids fishing! Going fishing with my father was one of the fonder moments of my childhood and it does not seem as enough people are doing that these days.

RE:This Weeks Fisherman

Jenn, you and your hubby still hitting the cape beaches this weekend???? Slim chance I may be able to get down there one night and maybe run into you two... Probably fish somewhere between Ballston's and The Meadow... I will be on foot 'cause I missed getting the permit in time ... Next year I'll just have to sacrifice a local fishing day to get that permit....

Shoot me an a-mail...

Later,

John

John I'm thinking about giving that area a try but I heard that parking is a problem. Do you need a parking permit for the lots? Last year at this time some of the ratts did well but I have never fished there.

You need to get a permit to park after midnight at the lots, the local police will give you one.

RE:This Weeks Fisherman

You're supposed to get a permit from the towns but honestly, I have never had any trouble at the Truro lots I've been to, probably 6-8 times this year and the same last year, all at night of course... Maybe I've been lucky but some of these parking lots have has 20+ cars and I haven't seen any tickets...

Jenn,
Race Point was slow last week, although Hatches harbor produced a number of fat schoolies. Lots of Bluefish off Head of the Meadow/Coast Guard in Truro as well as in the bay. A bayside, beachfront location will certainly yield blues and as the water cools, most likely some stripers. Tight lines.

RE:This Weeks Fisherman

Still hitting the Cape this weekend! I am actually taking a break from packing and preparing right now. We will be leaving sometime in the morning.
To John: If you can make it down this weekend let me know (hopefully before we leave I will check in the morning) and I would be glad to bring you along the oversand route if you are interested. If you want to E mail me you can do so at MRH@javanet.com.

To Canalratt: I know the Truro beaches require parking permits during the day but everytime I have ever parked there after five or six they have never bothered me. I am not saying it definately won't happen of course but I really do not think you have much to worry about at night (unless your car windows are fogged up !!!)

To Capecodder: Thank you for the info! Hopefully things will pick up for the weekend. I do fish Hatches usually so hopefully that will bring some luck!

To everyone: Have a great weekend! Catch lots of fishies!
