Exclamation Race Point Issues---Send Mail Here

Now, NO cussing or swearing... just send your thoughts, opinions, ideas, like---> eliminate the 500perweek weeklys, and eliminate the limit on annuals... mail-in renewals.... whatever ideas you have, that would HELP
Keep it upbeat and positive, and I'm sure they will be open to listen to Constructive Critisicm....They have a flawed system, and they know it, they are looking for solutions....

Better late than never.

Glad to see them attacking this so soon. Now is the time, while it is happening. Not 3 months from now.

I'll get my letter out today.

Thanks for the heads up!

I mailed mine at the PO about an hour ago.....
I also emailed it to the Superintendent's office.
I hope they read it.

Putting the Internet, cell phones, the popularity of SUV's aside, what other issue would you look at as being the culprit to the overwhelming amount of people now using an ORV?

Yeah... I can think of a couple smart as_ answers too. Think about it.... Give a serious answer p[lease.

Yup...just watched the article. Nothing bad just a report about the influx of people requesting permits and how busy it was.

You know, crucify me for this one, but I like the guy that said "It should be for cape residents only" Great attitude. Fine, then us "Mainlanders" should be the only ones entitled to permits, jobs etc on OUR side of the bridge. Gimme a break!

Question

When you get right down to it, there just aren't enough permits.

CCNS should just go to an open permit system like the one administered at Nauset, and control total daily access.

1) This is a win-win for everyone. CCNS will get more permit revenue, and anyone who wants to get a permit will get one.

2) An unlimited permit system solves the problem of people stampeding to get their permits at any one time. If people weren't in a rush to get their stickers, CCNS wouldn't have to hire more people to process permits during peak demand.

3) Controlled daily access addresses the potential problem of overcrowding. You will note, that most of the flow control occurring at Nauset is during the day, when the day-trippers (and NOT sportfishermen) are out and about. How much will this cost? Hire a kid for what...$10/hour to man a booth. Say 8 hours a day times, 30 days a month, five months of the season (May through Sep) at $10/hour = $6,000 per access point. That could be covered by sixty extra stickers per access point (assuming $100/sticker). I don't think CCNS will have a problem selling that many stickers, and even if they did all they would have to do all else equal is raise the sticker prices accordingly.

4) Unlimited permits = potentially more revenue, which should help offset the cost of administering access control.

5) CCNS should adopt modern business practices and leverage current and cheap technology to make life easier for all. Permit applications should be streamlined and offered online via the internet. Even the freakin' instructional video can be streamed online. People who have gotten their stickers from prior years should be exempt from the stupid video which is just a waste of time. If a guy doesn't pay attention watching the video instructions to AIR DOWN he's not gonna air down and find out the hard way why airing down is a good thing.

Just my $0.02.

FWW.. that would be a good thing......only problem is, all that $$$ they collect goes to the general fund, most of which goes to running other parks and not the ccns. My son was down there back in his high school days reprograming all their puters. He did this for a work study program he was on,,,THEY had no $$ to pay anyone to do it. so how are they going to hire anyone to stand guard at the check in gate house.

BOAT fish do count.

Question

Steve,

Somebody in Washington DC (Dep't of the Interior?) has to be informed as to what's going on at CCNS.

If it's a fund allocation issue ... remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Why should we put the internet aside, it's most of the blame for it one way or another.

OK you want a list?
1. good economy=more free time and money to spend for some
2.Magazine articles
3. Fishing show lecturers speaking about it since I can remember way back when.
4.The supposed comeback of striped bass and their relativly easy ability to catch them from the shore.
5. drive on the beach instead of paying to park and then have to walk down.
6. less crowded since you can drive to an uncrowded area.
7. you want me to write a friggin book?
8. because of blabbermouths like you who have to brag every minute you get a chance to just to get a rise out of people. Get another hobby please. I'm glad you got rid of that stupid 60 lb scale for an avatar

Hey tagger, there are no fish there, just mung and campers like JayR

Maybe they could enforce the rules and strip the stickers off some violators and when they do, they could have a backup waiting list for those who show up on the last day of sales and get shut out.

Thanks for posting that Karl

Karl, they got 500 weeklys? Do all 500 get used up most weeks? I mean, is that 500 weeklys that are available in any given week, or is a weekly taken out of circulation once someone uses it?

The way i see it, mail out renewals to previous holder in January. Make them reply with a deposit by march. Those that don't reply can free for all with the others. Have an automated phonline for the weeklies that would allow you to get or reserve a week in April for october. This way there will be no doubt that you have the week, then no need for a yearly. Count the RV, and chase vehicles as 1 permit together. Allow only those 2 permits, no need for 3 permits in the family, if the wife don't want to go out when you want to go tough. Just like it is tough for those who did'nt plan ahead according to some.

A very good article. Thanks for the post, Karl. I have to ask, what latitude does the CCNS management have? Are their hands tied-up by Washington bs?

Management has more than they let on...

They can set some policy, and they can submit recommandations, upstairs.... The "our hands are tied" is a good "out" for them...
Don't have a bad word to say about the people that work up there tho... always been professional and courteous.

I think Capesams has some great suggestions. I'd like to expand on them.

Campers -
72 hrs on/ 72 off is a good suggestion
No towing boat trailers - good also
No chase vehicles - good too
Why should they get to use up all this beach space for days.
Up the anti for the campers. It costs at least $100 a night for a
room up there.
Raise the camper rate to $500 (or more) per year.

Run the normal SUV's like Nauset - unlimited permits - check in - check out - limits as to # of vehicles based on conditions. This senerio would probably only apply from July - August. Use before and after that probably wouldn't warrant limits (maybe with the exception of weekends).

Just one personal observation. An elderly gentleman from Truro probably won't be driving the beach this year. He has been driving the beach for his own enjoyment for longer than 99% of the people on this BB have been alive. He was born in Truro and has lived all his life there. He was there long before the CCNSS was ever thought of. But due to advancing age and failing health he is unable to endure the marathon waits for beach stickers so he is out of luck. He lives 5 minutes from the beach but will be unable to drive out on it. In his place will be a bunch of people who live 5 hours or more from the beach. They may go there once or twice for an hour or two this season. I wonder how many other sad cases similar to this gentleman there are? Did or does the CCNSS take into consideration these situations? Should they?

All so Johnny wannabe offroad can charge around in the sand trying his best to be cool.

we have em over here. thank god they don't fish and if their from jersey they go right to great point.

we have an islander rate and an off-islander rate. if you don't buy your pass by May 1 you pay the off islander whack.

It is satisfying to hear the offislander who cheaped you down on contracting work squawk about paying $100 for the town beach pass. same guy spends a $1000 a day pretending to be a bigshot.
