Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
John R , we got to organize a get together for this site. One suggestion would be the vry last weekend in Sept. Flyfishingsaltwater is having one columbus day weekend and the weekend after that is a full moon weekend. I know last weekend in sept is a little short notice but it appears like that's the best weekend all things considered. I think the last weekend in October would be good too except that Burlingame closes after Columbus Day Weekend. Of course that assuming we would do it in souther RI.
Anyway , i think it would be fun to meet people so maybe you could give it some thought.

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
You read my mind Saltheart!
Southern RI is my vote, maybe we could all take a long walk, lots of area out there.
Last weekend in Sept gives everybody a few weeks to decide, should be plenty of time.

I'm all up for it, but... I have mt ferry reservation for the Vineyard Derby very early Sunday Morning, Oct 1... Sometime before or after???? The only problem with before is that we'll (hopefully) be moving into our new house....

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
Starting to sound like a plan. How does Friday "the 13th" and Saturday the 14th sound??? Scout and hammer on the 14th and hammer on the 14th???? Watch Hill would be a good candidate as would several other Rhody beaches... Depends on what's happening...

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
OK, I'm as mentioned above, I'm thinking night time at Watch Hill and/or someplace like East Beach would be good. I talked to Nolan and he's interested. You might even see the real #^^^^^^& ...
Just start off a list of things to bring;
KORKERS - fishing Watch Hill, they are a must
Minimum - splash pants and hippers for Watch Hill, nice warm waders for that time of year preffered
Eels or Plugs, but you wouldn't want to chunk fish there, some people do on the south side but....
Place to stay - I ain't putting any of you smelly, non-showered, eel slimed, clam tossers up in my shiny new house ...
How's that for starters????

Mark, I dunno...
Let's poll for a couple days... Anyone interested in the following weekend, Oct 20/21, (probably as late as I can plan as the baby is due in Novemeber ) Although I do like the "Friday the 13th, Scary Movie,Fall Fishing Blitz Extravaganza " for a name

What does this mean, I've got to order a surf rod to join in, lol. Will my 7 foot Lami's be of any use in the area, which I know nothing about? I'd be interested, although I do have a trip to Maine in October, which has yet to be scheduled. Sounds like fun and I'd love the opportunity to meet some of you guys.
Tight lines.

Either time is good for me actually better than Saltheart's original propsal, I didn't realize it was my Anniversary then. Good for the change or I'd really be sleeping in John's cespool.

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
You guys are making this really difficult!!! I'd hate to have TWO "Friday the 13th, Scary Movie,Fall Fishing, Ell Slimed, Cess Pool Condo, Bass and Blue Blitz Extravaganza " Toss in a 'cane and we can add the less-than-Perfect-Storm into the name as well ... Well maybe we have a big'un and a little'un....
Fishpart and Chris: The c'pool was only installed last week, so at least it will be relatively fresh , but my wife's shepards pie....
Fishpart, I'm picking up the thumb screws today (they're finally in after getting the incorrect ones)... I'll shoot you an e-mail...

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
As of right now count me in any weekend except the weekends of the 23th and 30th of this month . maybe the 21st of Oct
My best idea is the same as John R Oct 13 Scary Fall Striper Eel Slimed, Cess Pool Condo, Bass and
Blue Blitz Extravaganza . So what ever works for the works for me .

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
The 13th is good for me... I leave for Ontario and another bass species on Oct.22, though I've been known to sneak in some fishing the night before a vacation before (i.e. two weeks ago tonight), seems to be good luck
But, this sounds like some hardcore, kick@$$ striped bassin'. I think I'll need at least a week to recover from this one.

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
OK, my wife almost freaked when she thought everyone was crashing at my house ... Schoolie monster might because his wife is great friends with my wife...
We'll be scouting for places to fish and need to determine peoples preferences for types of fishing. Like, is everyone comfortable on the rocks at Watch Hill or what beaches we want to work, that sort of thing. How/if we split up... Current surf communications system is Motorola Talk-Abouts, real range about a mile... And most importantly, where to meet and eat ... For that I must defer to Saltheart. A surfcaster and gentleman, that in addition to working up and down the East Coast in the pusuit of the noble striped bass, also knows precisely which quality diners are in close proximity to these fine fishing localities!!!! And everyone knows that quality diner food is a fisherman's favorite , certainly after a very LONG night on the beach
Of couse, its now looking in October (unfortunately this month is bad) so we'll need to ad the above mentioned STRIPERFEST to the name ..."Friday the 13th, Scary Movie,Fall Fishing, Ell Slimed, Cess Pool Condo, Bass and Blue Blitz Extravaganza STRIPERFEST"
Saltheart, whatch doing tomorrow night, Saturday??? Wanna fish up here? It's been nice.... I was going to go to the cape. I had an offer to meet Jenn and her husband but I need to stay local in order to pack for the move...

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
Last fall we met for breakfast at The Viking Marina in Westerly. Its at 19 Margin St. Excellent man size breakfast. Not crowded at all. Not fancy. Just good food. I'll have to call to be sure they are still open. I'll post it.
I emailed you about fishing John.

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
Hey John, what about tackle? It's been 15 years since I last saw my surf gear leave in a strangers car, after purchasing same after I switched to the boat. Is this area strickly long rod territory, or will my 7 foot Lami's suffice for a night? Will this spot and time of year dictate plugs or live eels or chunks? I'd be comfortable ch#^^^^^&g a live eel with my conventional GW841M, as long as I don't need to throw an eel 150 feet or more. Might want to bring along the same blank but spinning, along with a bag of jerkbaits just for yuks.
Either way, unless my Maine trip has to be rescheduled the 13th I think will work and it would be nice to meet some of you guys. I will need some directions, since I've never fished in RI.
Tight lines.

RE:Striped-Bass Fall Extravaganza
No Problem here Got Stripers... Directions, meeting places and the like will all be determined. The 7 footer is probably a bit on the short side, especially if there is any kind of surf. I can spot you a conventional 9’ 1088 for the little get-together if you like… Plugs can work well here and if there is the typical peanuts, you jerk bait could look tempting, but, Bill has proven to me that the live eel is king … Looking forward to seeing you and all of the others that want to give it a whirl in the Ocean State!!!

Thanks for the offer John, I will take you up on that. I'll pop you an email, because I've got some other questions about gear, waders, purchase of eels etc. Thanks and tight lines.
