Korker Stud Question

I was replacing studs on my korkers yesterday and busted 3 off clean. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you get the thread backed out so you could replace the stud?

My experience has been the studs either they fall out by themselves or you can't get them out at all. I have used the easy out but the threads are usually shot too. I've taken to using cermac golf spikes and install my own T-nuts by drilling out theirs. Its a pain to do but the golf cleats last forever and they are easier to remove if you grease the threads when you put them in. I use mine to jetty hop,on really bad stuff, and they work fine.

I've read on another site that there's some guys who simply use stainless screws and bolts as studs... they wear out, but its easy to replace them and they're cheap-

Problems galore this weekend with 3 busted studs. Tried easy outs busted the easy out off in the stud. Back to square one maybe time to retrofit these and make them more user friendly.

I wash and wire brush the rust off at the end of the year and put a little oil on a q-tip and wipe them down.
Don't put the Korkers away for the winter unwashed and with rusty spikes. I found out the hard way if you don't do any maintainance on them, the first time you put them on in the spring you'll break off a bunch of spikes.

no matter what precautions you take (grease, WD-40, loc-tite, etc...) they will either fall out, break off, or wear down and get stuck. do youself a favor and throw the stock studs away before you even use them!

when i buy korkers, i remove the studs and replace them with 1.5" SS bolts. drill throught the bottom of the boot where the original studs were located, put a washer on each side, slide the SS bolt through, and finish with a lock nut. you will NEVER go back! they last way longer than stock studs and grip 10x better. i can go about 3/4 of a season this way, and i fish several nights per week in the summer and 4 - 5 nights a week in the spring and fall. every one that i have done this for or have shown how to do feels the same way as i do. try it and i guarantee you will be happier and safer.
