Boat back in shop
Got my boat new in June, 2052 Trophy. Found spider cracks in gel coat. Brought back next day and was told to run her and bring her back in Jan. 04. Got her back in April, said boat was fine.
After waxing, found more spider cracks, sags, pin holes, and discoleration. Brought her back last Thurs., told them, I'm not satisfied. They said they would correct the problem in a week. Today they e:mailed me and said they they need more time, next week will be ready.
Thus boat has less than 20 hours on it. Another weekend without her.
Later, Link

That stinks about the boat, but at least they gave you a time that it would be ready.
A lot of dealers just give you the run around, and tell you they are soooo busy.
I been out 6 times and your not missing a thing, the weather has been the pits

Yeah thats right i am pi$$ed... man i love to come home from work to... the boat not going to be home till monday ( witch i bet it is not)! I mean really they have had the boat OVER a week.. to tell you the truth i bet the dident even start to work on it till yesterday! Thought we would be able to go out tommrow morning b4 i have to goto work but NO! the boats not here and this sucks badly
I mean you screw up the first time, we send it back to them and you say you will have the boat for the weekend! all i wanted was the boat back fixed for the weekend, just to get out for an hour or 2.
What do you guys think? Do you think this should be happining to a boat with less than 20 hours? I'm starting to get iffi about this boat.

I think it sucks
The gelcoat may have been too thick. How are they gonna fix the spider cracks? I think they need to be ground out and filled then gelcoated again. Not an easy job, it's alot of work. I think those boats are built with a chopper gun. Hand laid glass is always better, but more costly.

The other problem too, like capesams says, they make them too fast these days. That's what happens when they yank them from the molds too soon. The resins continue to cure for some time after they are yanked. If they wouldn't rush things and leave the boat in the molds for a day before pulling them, there wouldn't be as much deformation. It's this deformation that'll cause the gelcoat to spidercrack (that and wrong size hardware or holes for the hardware). I hate to say it, but I think it'll continue to be a problem that you'll be battling them over for some time.
Ask #^^^^^^^^^^^& about the spircrack issues he had with his Angler.

Link, my boat spider cracked too after only a few hours of use. I had several people in the boat repair business look at it and they said that it does not effect the structure of the boat. It is just that the gelcoat was put on a little thick and shows cracks after flexing, so I'm told. I've had my Angler since 2000 and have about 600 hours on it. Except for some spider cracks in the gel coat, that haven't effected the boat at all, it's been great. I use my boat hard too. I have also looked at other fairly new boats and noticed spider cracks on them also. Angler offered to fix the spiders but I don't want to tie the boat up. I hope this makes u feel better.

thank's for everyones input the dealer has explained about the gel coat laid on to thick and the flexation of the boat, I know it's cosmetic not structural so after these repairs I'll just have to live with it and go fishing no sense of making payments on something you can't use. I'm still a little later link

You gotta play hard ball to get satisfaction...
Go meet with the sales MANAGER...refuse to talk to the Salesman...Start off with...problem since day one, no satisfaction, I have been paying...I want brand new Boat that I paid forand then what are you going to do to make me happy.
you start there you will get something before the negotiaion is over...I would want at least free winterization for the length of the payments...that is only if they correct the problems
do not be afraid to mention lawyers and the Attorney General's offfice either
Waaayy too much money to get punked on a new boat

Link, do you work around the corner from me? I thought I saw you one day when I was driving by. I live on wareham st. across from the back of Appizidis restaurant.
That sucks that it isn't done yet for you but hopefully it will be worth the wait. Just tell them no more promises, tell them you are taking a substitute boat in the meantime or else!
