Making fly or teaser w/ a VMC siwash hook

Hey guys, I have ordered plain VMC 5/0 siwash hooks in single and treble. I am considering about making a fly or treaser out of them for my plugs. What are your thoughts on my idea?

i think that the 5/0 swash will be great for the end of the plugs
dress them with buck tail and red thread

I guess I misunderstand your question, it sounded to me like you wanted to tie some flies to use as a teaser. A teaser goes on the line in front of your plug, a tailhook goes on the rear of a plug. Which is it that you are using the 5/0 hooks for? a tailhook? or a teaser?

I make my own rear hooks for all my plugs and I use VMC siwash hooks also, from 3/0 up to 8/0 depending on the size of the plug.

A fly made from a 5/0 siwash hook will need to be a very large fly, that's all I was saying.

Both of them, Bruce. I thought about using VMC Siwash hooks for tailhook and teaser (tailhook, ofcourse, nothing new), and use it (teaser) as a efficient C&R and durable. If it is going to be a large fly, I agree with ya, a tremble VMC siwash is way bloody huge. It could be useful when doing one of Charlie's CC canal tandem fly jig method on the ditch. or catching a tuna. Anyway, it will be large as you were saying.

this technique works on any hook.. if you tie them right you don't need much adhesive at all.. there is a technique which is easier to learn if you can watch it.. .but i'll try to explain here..

basically cut your desired lenthg of bucktail.. stack it on the hook as you would when tying.. (by the way... pre wrap a little thread on the hook before you put the hair on) then wrap two or 3x around the whole bundle..

then peal up about 1/3rd or 1/4r of the hair.. infront of the first few wraps then wrap thread under those hairs 2 or three wraps.. repeat this til you get to the last third (1/4)

now you will have something resembling a mohawk type hair cut..

next step..

take your scissors and cut these pieces down as short as you can.. wrap over these back towards your first few wraps...
this will lock all the hairs in place.. then go back over until it looks decent.. then whip finish.. or half hitch knot cut off your thread.

and you can seal it with whatever adhesive you like.. epoxy works good, you can get away with sally hanson hard as nails... or soft tex.. they all will seal and protect your thread wraps..

i know it sounds like its complicated.. but its really easy... and will leave your hooks looking neat ...
