Hi Van,
There are twin Yamaha 200's
I have not really pushed her yet, I have been cruising at 3800 rpm's and we were doing 27 knots. I get different speed readings on the GPS, and speedometer, only a few knots difference. Do you think the GPS is more accurate?

We have had this discussion a few times on the board, and everyone agrees that GPS is the most accurate for speed over ground.

Fish on, yes there is a ton of room (big selling point with wife) The cabin has a stand-up head with hot water, ac/dc fridge and shore power. The beam is 9'3" lots of fishing room on the deck. I just picked it up Friday, but the radar seems to work fine..I will be fooling around with the electronics this week. Man I just fell in love with this boat when I saw her, I looked at lots of 25 Sailfish and Dolphins but none of them were what we wanted. I took my wife with me when we first went to look at it, she got aboard looked at me and said "make an offer" First I could not believe that I finally found a boat that I wanted, but to have her agree... So I had to get it.

Chris I would make a suggestion that you move that radar dome up onto a pedestal asap or don't use it. You're 4' from a major rfi emission and it's unsafe. If you continue to use it like it is right now I'd be betting your fingernails will be glowing neon colors in a short time....
Seriously though it's not a good thing to be in the beam of that I would look into moving it....

Thanks for the compliments guys on my new baby.
Salty -thanks for the advice, all my prior boats were sans radar, so I had no clue.
I went and looked at it this morning to find a better location.

Leave it mounted right where it is but have a pole made up to get it a few inches above your hardtop. Pole can be made to collapse as well. The pole will be in your view but you won't have to worry as much about the cosmetics of the spot it was mounted in now.

My son just came down (18 years old) and I asked him what kind of boat have I told you to get since you were about 10?? He said 25 Grady with twin 200's!!
I said right you are !! Here it is!

Thanks macojoe, I have waited a looong time for this, I still can't beleive it...I went to the dock 2 times already today just to see if it is real of course I will realize it when the first payment is due next month

Don't have radar so I haven't looked into it, however I did look at a boat when I was buying that had a radar mount similar to what we are talking about. I think they are somewhat common, but are probably custom made. I'm sure someone else that checks the thread might have a suggestion where you could purchase such an item.

Chris - check with a good accountant (JPowers ) you may be able to itemize the interest and taxes - a boat like that may qualify as a "second residence" per IRS rules

Your regular knot meter is giving you speed through the water.
Your GPS is giving you speed over the ground.
Also remember the paddlewheel or thingy on the stern for the knot meter has to deal with cavitation from the hull going through the water and surging of the water under the boat. |
