anyone try to buy lively's of the draggers?

you know,,,,, the herring boats.
how do you approach them?
call 'em on the radio?
steam up when the're hauling?
trade beer? smokes? $cash$,women?furs?gems? etc...
just wondering.

I haven't done it with the herring boats, but I would try and call them on the radio first. If you just steam up to them they might get pissed at you for interfering with their work.

Yeah I'd give them a call.
Enough herring should fall out of the twine that you may be able to dip net some. When I worked on the boats the boat-to-boat transfer never worked out all that well. Most of the sport boats would just wait for us to get the net up the ramp and then they'd come right in with a dip net. But it'd still be a good gesture to give them a shout on the VHF to let them know you're going to do this. A few packs of butts in a ziplock bag with a weight of some kind in it, so that you can heave it, would be appreciated; and you never know he might give you a tip on where he saw some fish.
