i have been fishing with just cheap rain gear.
what is a good rainsuit for surf fishing?
do they make a one piece so the water cant get in between the pants and jacket?

dont know if You want to blow the doe But i use the aqua skins and stay dry as a bone even when taking a wave

Yup - I bought an Henri Lloyd Pulse splash jacket for $95 a month ago - it's got a neoprene waistband with velcro straps, neoprene cuffs and collar with velcro strap and a storm flap if it's too warm for the collar to be closed so you get some ventilation.

It also got a mesh pocket on the upper left arm for a pack of smokes and a Zippo in a ziploc - well, if ya smoke, I guess

The whole jacket probably weighs maybe 1 1/2 # and all the seams are taped -

I'm buying the pants to go with it, too - Henri Llloyd is top-of-the -line sailing gear - couldn't believe the splash top was as reasonable as it was - JT's Chandlery sells 'em in Newport.

Team 1 also carries the Henri Lloyd gear.My jacket is super lightweight too.I have the inside waterproof pocket and the two outside ones.I also have the hood that stows away in the collar. Velcro flaps cover all the pockets and zippers and the wrist bands.

That jacket was probably the best freebie I've ever been given.Thanks Jerry!

I thought everyone was "Aquaskinz or death" on this website.

While I haven't looked at any sailing brand of dry-tops. I had looked at a few quality looking dry-tops at EMS for kayaks.

I personally found my neck is a little too big to be comfortable in an Aquaskinz. So until I loose enough weight for my neck to fit comfortably in an Aquaskinz, I might have to try another brand.

Guess I will try Monahan's marine unless anyone else has any suggestions where to find some quality dry-tops in the Weymouth/Quincy area.

Thanks for the info on that jacket. I've been looking into sgetting a splash top. I bought a paddling jacket which was very nice and a good price, but they run VERY small. I normally wear XL but I bought XXL and it was tight like a straight jacket. A real shame.

BTW- How do the sizes in the Lloyd's run?

I love the Pulse top but there's a big caveat here - it's still not an Aquaskinz but they're pretty good for short money.

Green meanie was looking for a rainsuit and I'd highly recommend it and the pants for that use - but you gotta remember that the Lloyd doesn't have sealing cuffs and a neck like the 'Skinz. The Pulse is just a splash top and I use it for that only- to keep from getting wet if I'm on high rocks.

The Lloyd Pulse tops run pretty true to size - I'm a 42 and take a Large.

All that having been said, an Aquaskinz top and a 'Skinz belt bag are #1 and 2 on my fall shopping list for the late season.

For wet wading or breaking surf the Pulse isn't gonna keep you as dry as the Aquaskinz will - or as warm as the neoprene model.

Hey, the 'Skinz were designed specifically for surfcasting and those Montauk boys know their stuff, believe me.

Lloyd's actually does make a new model that has latex neck and cuff seals, called the T2 Competition. It looks very similar to the Aquaskinz. However, the price isnt much cheaper. Online, I found mostly UK retailers, but it looks like it is selling for $195.

I was looking up the pulse model and the site mentioned it is an older model. The only thing stopping me from buying the Aqua is that I don't care for the giganitc logo accross the front.

PurpleNoon - I am in agreement. Its one thing to have an aligator on your polo shirt, but to have AQUA SINZ written across your chest on a form fitting top.... but the name on the back.

Despite my dis- taste for Aqua-Skinz fashoin, I'll probably pick up a suit for the fall run. As my mother always said, its better to be warm then look good"

Not exactly - there are other options but I think the Skinz are the most tailored for Surfcasters.

Aquaskinz or Death....thats me...I love em (and yes I am involved with the company)

I am a big guy with an almost 20" neck...my skinz took a bit to get used to but I think that would have been with any cuff around my neck

I went out looking at a bunch of the similar "Dry" tops on the market and anything of quality match to the skinz was similar $ also...yes there were cheaper but the harsh environment of the Surf will wear and tear things not properly thought out and mfg'd for that purpose

Another plus is that the Skinz are cut for our use (read...fishing) so they have enough room in the shoulder area for the motion of casting, etc.

That being said, these are only tops...when on the boat it is Lacrosse boots cut down to the first lip and a Grundens "Hurricane" bib. Grundens make somthing like 4 lines of bibs and I have owned three over my many years boating...go with the "Hurricane" or the "Extreme"

When I transfer to the Jetty or a similar fishing situation I trade the Lacrosse Boots for Hip Boots and I am good to go fishing, stay dry and get in the water to land that HawG

Grunden's is tough to beat for no nonsense commercial gear - I bought a sou'wester hat to go with my splash top.

I'll tell ya, I like it better than an attached hood - it doesn't ruin your peripheral vision and at night you need all the help you can get on the rocks.

Mrs Crafty thought I looked like something between the Gorton's of Gloucester guy and the gaffer in the Graves Point Fishing Club photo from 1881 we do - talk about retro.

Personally, I think I look like Manwell, the Portuguese cod-fisherman Spencer Tracy played in Captains Courageous

It used to be JT's Ship chandlery and was the best place to get serious boating gear like winches , etc , even for the boiggest and best boats.

Now its mostly a clothing store with a small window for ordering boat stuff.

Anyway , it's right on the main drag in newprt right across from the wharf that goes down to Christies.
