Congrats on the lathe

Wood will depend on what types of plugs you want to make. If you are just starting out with a lathe, pick up some hardwood or poplar dowels from Homies. If you seal them, they'll do ok. Good stuff to start with while you learn on the lathe. Move up to the more expensive stuff once you got it down some.
