I spend my summer fishing for striped bass, and yesterday my buddy asks me if I want to go to a small local lake and fish on ultra light tackle. So we went to the lake with our 4 1/2 foot rods and reels that hold about 50 yards of 4 pound test. After a while my buddy starts complaing about the lack of fish (0 fish to that point), and then my drag starts screaming. I fought it and landed it after a big fight and it turns out to be a 6# largemouth bass, my largest fish of the year, salt or fresh water. Figures. Maybe I should start fishing for sea bass, maybe then I could find another striper.
When I caught my first bass I was hooked more than the fish.
LMB, or SMB, on light tackle, can't beat it.
Not trying to stir anything up here, but, one of them critters on light tackle, will usually give you more fight than a "keeper" size striper on most of the gear we surf guys use.
I actually don't have any pics. We weren't expecting to catch anything more than a few panfish and maybe a couple of small bass, so we didn't bother bringing the camera.
