Favorite Memories of the Season

This year went by QUICK....
Moving into a new home and working two jobs does that I supposed... but even if the season isnt quite over.. Whats your favorite memories of the year?

My top 4 were

1. Catching 4+ times more keepers and larger keepers than last year

2. Getting hooked in the skull with a 7/0 hook and then denying medical care to continue fishing. Caught a tie for my biggest fish ever 10 mins later

3. My wife catching her first keeper on a med action fresh water pole.

4. At the beginning of the year getting virtually spooled because I got paged by work. I casted, got the page, called the attorney, and line started ripping. I tried walking the attorney thru his problem while trying to reel with one hand with drag screaming. I finally tell him I need to put him down for a sec, I do so and he must of hung up accidentally because two seconds later he calls back. All of a sudden, SNAP, and I lost 3/4 of my spool and a monster... I wanted to KEEL...

My three best moments this season are as follows with the first two at the top......when my youngest son Nathan caught his first surf keeper striped bass (picture is in last weeks and this weeks Fisherman magazine ) and when my oldest son Larry caught his first bluefish!(Me Proud Dad!) The other was when Slingah and I bumped into Slipknot and Bassmaster and we all hammered keeper size bass between 15-30 pounds all night long......the best part for me was it was my first time out with my home made needlefish and I caught 25 fish 15-25 pounds! Thank Gawd for that night cause' other than that mostly my season sucked fish wise! Had alot of fun though so thats good!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

my fondest memory of the season was fishing with Blackeye at Point Judith light... he's standing on one rock, im on another... big rollers were coming in and we were into a nice pod of bass... I look over at him after a rouge wave came in and almost wiped me off the rock i was standing on, and all i see is 2 feet wiggleing around in the whitewater, korker spikes twinkling in the monlight... the rest of blackeye was totally submerged. Then the best part was watching him try to stand up as more waves kept knocking him down...... I'm laughing right now as i type this

Not in order of importance

1. Brand New Lami 1084 custom built snapping like a twig on my 1st cast, eel hits the water, fish pounds it and fighting in a 25 lb bass with half a rod.

2. My 2 1/2 year old son catching his first bluefish and asking me everytime I leave the house DAD CAN WE GO FISHING?

Thumbs up

Wow, that's a tough one. First would be May 24th at BALSTON IN MID=AFTERNOON. it was overcast and drizzly and the wind was southeast around 20knots. I was there with Stiffy and two other friends and we are catching the first fish of the year on the outer beach in Truro, all fish are 18 to 22 inches. I walk north past everyone and see a slew running hard south ( the tide was incoming) by the edge of the bowl by the High dune and no one is fishing it. I pop the brand new Tobimaru onto the corner of the bar and I see a large white flash and the new Loomis 8-1/2 footer goes hard over and the drag is screaming. Couple minutes later 24 pounds of bass is laying at my feet. No one else caught anything over twentyfour inches.

Second was the first weekend in July. Race point was barren. No fish and a white dodge pick-up with New York plates was pulled up right to the edge above me and a guy and his wife were sharing a bottle of vino by a small open fire. Just me fishing and them enjoying a warm night on the beach. An hour into plugging the last of the outgoing with no results suddenly his truck high beams come on as he is putting out the fire and packing up to go. Fifteen minutes go by and his lights got the whole point and rip lit up and I am burning up now. I keep casting anyway. I had an Eelpunt 6 inch long Olive over silver needle on. I made a cast out, saw it land in the water and started to S-L-O-W-L-Y retrieve it. All of a sudden the water explodes in front of me about fifty feet from shore. 20 minutes later I revived an exhausted 47 inch bass I would estimate that went 40 pounds or better. All under the high beams of that dodge pick-up ( they came down to watch me land it) I only had two other hits that night fishing till sunrise and didn't hook either of those.

Why even try.........

fishing the canal tournament for the first time this year. First day I entered a 25.5 lb bass. The second day, I arrive at my destination thinking about my strategy for the morning and as I hop out of the truck and close the door I remember just as the door slams that I left my keys inside. Call AAA, they come in a 1.5 hours. Thinking I missed the best part of the current I proced to pole XXXXX, very first cast and I land a 23.5 lber. Later on I moved to pole XXXXX. Fish start breakinh out in front of me. 5 casts I landed a 36" 36" 37" and a 38". All were skinny and i didn't have any fish over 23lbs for the rest of tournament.

work hard, fish hard and die happy!

My best is taking my Son to the Ditch first day of vacation. We fished eels in the dark then plugs @ sun up then jigs afterwards.20 keepers in all count our biggest was @ 39".
When we were done, on my way back up the rocks I found a nice 1 1/2 # lobster in the rocks I dragged him out of his hole brought him home for breakfast.

That was my best day ever w/ my son
My Son caught this 36" on a plug. I was trying to teach him on how-to use plugs, needlees to say he caught on quick!!!

Nice thread Bjs

That is a GREAT picture!!! My favorites are meeting a lot of you guys and fishing with some on the beach. Big Fish calling me away from the tube and a Sox shellacking to have the best night in the surf of my season. Meeting some of the Plug ho s from here and gabbing building. THIS was the Best season of my life, bar none . Thanks to all! 'Specially John R for the medium that made it possible. PS....It ain't over either!

Gotta agree with SKD! The Sox winning the series was #1 on the list of memories!

But as far as fishing memories go...........

Lets see...................

Well the three best memories were all while on Fishing Freaks boat!

1 trip out we fill the boat with cod and haddock!
another trip out we catch a few sharks as well as a bunch of ground fish
and finally the afternoon we went out for bass and had double hookups on every drift!

Mike can flat out put you on fish!!!!
He should seriously thinking about starting a charter business!!!!!!!!!!!!

dragging my 15.5 yr old fishing with me and after a few days trying he landed his first striper. a 18" striper.
biggest fish he has ever caught.
He is now hooked.

Now, if I can just track down a low pricetag boat that is large enough for 4 adults to go out in.

There is a fine line that seperates a fisherman from a fool standing in water swinging a stick.

will cook for food
...and plugs

Getting a friends 9 year old daughter into a 3 hour bliz of schoolies. She did a number on them with a Wild-eye shad. To a #50lb girl those 15"-24" fish were like giants. She casts out and reels them in all by herself. The only worry was that the current would take her out to sea. She outfished her dad 5:1.

Best nights were seeing the good old days of 2-6 years ago for 3 days this fall. Gives me a little hope for next year.

Taking the boat from Boston to Race Point, catching a 40 lbs Tuna on the way, catching several nice bass at race point. Didnt get home to 2 am monday morning.

Fishing with my dad in the Boston Harbor Shoot out.

Over night shark expedition off of Stellwagon. That was lots of fun. Especialy watching Jaws on my portable dvd at 1 am in the morning. Catching my first blue shark was cool to.

thats why they call it fishing not catching

My best day fishing was in June, fishing with my dad, and Gary Corsetti. It had been so long since my father and I enjoyed a day of fishing. We had a ball nailing large stripers, and then hunting down some good size fluke. My dad does'nt usually like boat fishing, he hates conventional reels. On the way home all he could talk about was how much fun he had, and how he could'nt wait to do it again.

Bent Rods and Screaming Reels!
