my puter

is clicking away and shutting off on it's own...is my hard drive dieing

That could be one of many causes for why your computer is doing this. Could be a virus for all you know.

Sounds like the Sasser virus...

Back up regardless. I had a drive in my laptop fail this summer.

Take a hammer to the Hard Drive before throwing it out, or put the hard drive on top of your alternator, start your car and then in a minute, toss the hard drive out...

Magnets in alternator make sure your hard drives' contents are FUBAR!

The clicking sounds like the hard drive very bad. Try Start - run - cmd When the command prompt opens type chkdsk /F /R It may say that it can't do it now do you want to when you reboot type y exit then reboot. This will try to repair your hard drive. I would burn any data you want to keep to disk, get another hard drive and rebuild.
