I have a Penn Slammer 560 on my All Star 1088, which is kinda close to a 1084. Nice balanced rig. I have 40# Power Pro on it. Had one tangle I was able to clear without much fuss.

The wife has a Stradic 8000 on her Batson 1088. It's OK for her but I find it a little heavy when I "borrow" it . That has 50# PP on it. She hasn't been able to tangle it beyond salvage, and she was geting knots all the time using a 704 and mono.

I hear the Slammers don't like getting dunked, but mine's a bay/LI Sound set-up, not for high surf.

Might even want a Slammer 460 on that rod. They can take a little water, but it's a nice reel for the money.

I use a penn slammer 360 on my 1084. I love this little reel on the 1084.. it balances it out perfectly. I think I would be in trouble if a 50lber and i crossed paths, but at least it would have a sporting chance

the 1084 with that slammer is the perfect small popper rod IMO.

Penn Slammer. No cheap plastic parts here.

I think the slammer could do pretty well, unless you hooked into an Albie and didn't know how to fish. Eben

I've got a batson 1088 and a 1087 with the 560, I'd recommend the 560, sits well on both the sticks I have it on, and they hold up well. 460 would work too, never seen the 360.... whats the line capacity on that?

Eben, if you go south this winter, take that 1084 and 360, great "snapper" set up too
