Smelt fishing

I'm thinking of trying smelt fishing from a massachusetts shore soon and I'm wondering if anyone has any info or tips on fishing these little jewels. I've never tried it but it sounds like fun and it puts food on the table. Thanks for any help.

Any smelt south of quincy? I remember fishing for them as a kid with cousins in southie, but I don't remember what bridge it was.
I see guys at marina bay at lunch somedays, but that spot seems to be hit or miss.

Having never tried this before and speaking to The Fore River Bait Shop yesterday, seems like the Quincy area is where I'll try first. I'll be heading to Fore River this weekend to pick up some gear and pick their brains a little. Onshore is what I'll try first and eventually through the ice. I mangaged to find a couple of links online yesterday that were helpfull... so off I go!
