Access in Galilee?
There was an article in the projo today talking about the Durfee Family that owns Georges of Galilee knocking down the restaurant and the cottages on the adjacent 3 acre parcel. They are going to build some new 3-4 story houses and redo the restaurant. The houses will sell for 1.75 - 2.25 million, but "the beachfront will be partitioned for private use." What will this mean for access and those that can not get parking for the west wall and don't mind hoofing it down the beach or just fishing anywhere along that section east of salty brine. I know all the rules about the mean high tide line, but with new owners, most likely out of staters, will this mean another area may disappear due to people thinking they "own" the beach. Just wondering if anyone on the board had any more information on the plans or transactions that are taking place down there?

I doubt they will be shutting down that parking lot. Anyway, I have never had any luck catching fish anywhere there except off the wall in the channel on the outgoing and inside the pond on the incoming or durring THE HATCH. they can't partition the beach. Its illegal. And if you can't get parking at the west wall, which can be tough, I would rather drive 3 minutes to matunuck and try deep hole, carptenters, or the mist, then drive all the way back to gallilee. I wouldn't be worried about this at all.

Similar thing happened this year at Sakonnet point. The town sold the property where everyone parks for the jetty to a private group to use for a restaurant, even though it's a federal right of way. Can't remember how this ended up...

Eben, I wasn't inferring that it was a long walk. I personally would rather do the walk ,get a little fresh air and exercise then to jockey for a spot closer to the wall. I was just meerly trying to state that with the new houses being built it just gives another opportunity for the people who buy these houses to think they own the beach. I agree with Zacs those are much better places. Besides I am mostly a boat guy anyways, but those fish don't count.

The can close off the area of the beach above MHW, thats private property, if there are public access ROW's then they might stay, but the state wont lose the lot or state beach...

Fishdump i was busting your balls... the west wall is across the channell from georges, so you would have to walk all the way to route 1 and around the salt pond. the gallilee side of the channell is simply called the shortwall or simply georges. parking in the lot there sholdnt become a problem i hope

There are really two parking lots there, one for the resurant and a state parking lot. The state lot shouldn't be affected. Its a short walk from George's to the west wall, if you can walk on water
