I didn't think it was possible to meet someone who knew more about silt than myself. I take great pride in my silt knowledge, but to be bested like that is certianly humbling.

A view from the west... Steve McCandless for scale.. we were out taking beach volume measurements, at the site (we have weekly data from that site dating to Oct 1977, so we know a thing or two about that site)
You can see the beach either side of the pipe is fairly unchanged by the discharge...
Check the Chariho paper thursday, we may be on the front page, a photographer was there taking pics when we got there

Standing on the pipe looking towards the water..
There is scour around the pipe outlet ~6-7m wide and 1.2m deep...
This will not be permanant, and should fill in quickly when the pump is turned off... The water is TR#^^^^^&G out of the pipe.. I dont know velocity/pressure, but I do know that given the size of the sediment and the water depth the water below the pipe flowing down the beachface is going ~1.2m/sec...

Standing in the water looking at the beach....
Not the scarp and plume of water (scroll up and look at the fitting on the end of the pipe...)
Where I was standing was ~2ft deep and tough to stand in given the water coming down the beach coupled with the waves....

I thought I saw Jesus in the plume.. maybe I should sell this on ebay... it's either Jesus or that slime stuff from ghost busters
And BI Jeff... this is sand, not silt... there is a difference... if you want silt we'll have to talk about my work in Greenwich Bay
