Mitchell 304
Any of you guys that used to fish the 60's or 70's use them? How big are they? Were they used in fresh or salt? They look like Crack reels. Just curios.

If it's the Mitchell I'm thinking of, it's more of a freshwater size. 8-10# line. My aunt had one and she used it on a 7' freshwater rod for mackerel. Round body, like a Crack or Luxor.
The 300, 302 and 306 were much more common Mitchell models among saltwater fishermen.

The drag washer system on the 302 is CRAZY .. I took mine apart and never could get it to work agian  |

I probably caught a million pickeral an bass on mine as a kid I would switch it up with my (ultralite) 308.That i still use for pond trout.I remember my younger brother broke my rod after seein a ugly stick commercial.  O that was funny we laugh about it now. |

It was the "normal size freshwater reel in it's day. (before ultralight)
I converted mine to manual bail after the bail spring broke and used that reel till the gears wore out.
That was in the days when we would'nt cast our lures into the snags cause we did'nt want to lose them.
Lots of days fishing on Ramshorn Pond in my memories.

Ya,the 308 was one of the few ultra lites made in the early 60"s.Used to use #2lb test on a Fenwick 4 an 1/2 ft rod for trout. I also had the large salt water mitchell but can't remember the #. Could have been a 302 ?Still have a large salt water Rumere,but the alumium spool has disintergraded  |

I still have a 302 that saw quite a bit of use up until about 15 years ago. Was cleaned and never used since.

How freaky...I was wrapping presents in my parents basement last night and noticed a Mitchell 300 on a shelf. Never seen it before...wierd...

A 304 is a freshwater reel that looks like a mini Crack or Luxor. They were not as common as the 300 or 308. I actually have a saltwater Mitchell in great condition but the drag is sticky. I had a Crack that the gears went in, not sure where it is probably in my graveyard of reels that I refuse to throw out.
