Fished BH yesterday!

Planned on making it out to the B buoy for cod....but it was too rough for my open bow boat (2-5' seas) but managed to fish in a few spots inside the harbor. All told 4 sand sharks just of the point allerton in Hull and several larger macks. I had read that there were some cod there as well....we didn't find any. Also braved the rough seas for an hour or so in between the 4 and 6 bouys in the north channel....reports of winter flounder.....caught many sea robins and some big mackerel, but no darn flounder. All in all disappointing, but I have never had mackerel - giving it a try tonight. Thinking of winterizing my boat...I just can't bring myself to do it yet. I still have not caught that elusive keeper bass. I may give the lead line a try off of beavertail point in RI this weekend, we'll see. I hope to hear of someone here catching that 40+ striper sometime soon!

Hey Rookie. The weather has been good to us all so far so if that holds through the weekend, you should definitely give it a shot. I would recommend that you give Rhody a solid look and perhaps more west of Beavertail. Crawl into the belly of South County 8)

fishing rookie, How did you get the mackerel? did you get alot? I am debating whether or not to go out in the harbor one last time. If the mackerels are thick I would like to live bait a couple off hardings ledge to see if there is a 50 pounder lurking around.

Mr. Kav....i was not referring to spanish mackerel.....just plain old mackerel....the smaller stuff.....I caught them with a diamond jig with two or three tube teasers, they hit the teasers only, very close to the bottom. My guess is that the mackerel is all over the harbor.

John R., where do you suggest west of Beavertail?? could you name a specific spot that I can find on my chart?? Thanks for the advice!!
