I have been messin around with red cedar. Drills and spins much faster than AYC. It is MUCH lighter so you will either have to make really BIG plugs or load the hell out of it.
Really loading them will take a little practice. I spun some huge needles last night....14 to 16". I am experimenting with the lead load placement.
Will let you know.
