Thumbs down VS "rep" at River's End Saturday...

What a jerk. Gave me the cold shoulder when I went to his table. He seemed genuinely annoyed that I was "waisting his time" by even looking through the VS catalog. That is the second VS A-hole I have dealt with since the change over to Zebco ownership. I am so glad I sold all but one of my VS's off now.

Later in the day I overheard him bragging to some goons looking through the catalog. "Give me any reel on the market and I will kill it in a week. I fish hard! I wetsuit fish. I don't even rinse my VS's off after I use them. They WILL last without any problems..." Blah, blah, blah....

I was there and didn't talk to the guy but have to admit that something about him rubbed me the wrong way. It was the way he kept looking at me, like I was doing something wrong. Maybe it had something to do with the 6 Habs I had in my hands????

i have to agree a bit. i tried to get into a conversation w/ him but 2 other clowns jus wanted to feel proud talking to the guy for 25 minutes. finally i was able to get in there for a couple minutes. he answerd my questions, added too much other info i didn't care about, and did seem pretty arrogant. i did pretty much want to b-slap him to get him off his high horse.

i do not want to start another vs tread here, but i still have yet to see something compare to it. some are switching to the saltiga's, but i need to see that reel after 3-4 seasons in some hard conditions. i want to see how their service will be and how their reel reel stands up. it looks tough now, but talk to me in a few years.

it was a great show and kudo's to river's end for another great one. better than last year's.

habs, are you sure you are not missing any plugs???

So are we usin the saltiga's now. What size 4500 or 5000.JP likes the 5000 wit the gt spool.but their seems to be some discrepency on the size.JP need 300 yds of 50lb braid.I guess i like the same size reel as I am a 706 guy.but i might consider one for the canal an some wet suitin.I'm gonna wait a little to see how they hold up an I would like to hold one.before i buy it.the weight doesn't bother me so much.

NIB, you should have stopped in. I was there just before 8 am, and he was there. We put on a pot of coffee and talked for a while before the crowds showed up.

As an aside - I had a good time there. Watched Pat rig up an eel. I had an appointment at around 12 and thought all the Habs would be sold out by time I got there so I called River's Edge and they (thanks Mark!) were nice enough to put a bunch aside for me. I ended up putting a few back on the shelves. Great guys there!

At msba I stoped at the vs booth and spoke with Craig, I thought he was polite and kept it a conversation, yeah he made sure I knew the used reel had caught big #'s and how his grounds where Montauk, whatever. At this point I don't need a VS rep to sell me a reel, memebers on the site have done that. Egoahole proably started fishin two years ago.

Same thing, I spoke with Craig at MSBA show this weekend. He was responsive to some issues I had with one of my reels. Said he would take care of it for me. Proof will be in the pudding if he follows through. Same old thread you either love them or hate them.

Not so much. Only recently I have fallen out of the VS fan club. I have exclusively fished VS's for my spinners for about 5+ years. I sold off 4 of my 5 this off season. Only kept one out of sentimental value. I have never had negative things to say about the service or personality of anyone associated with the company until the switch to Zebco ownership.

Being a salesperson myself, it never ceases to shock me when I hear stories like that. How someone like that rep could keep a job like that beats me. I figure, if you like what you sell, you would be all the more enthusiastic about talking about fishing etc. If I had an attitude like that I wouldn't last a month. What a shame!

Toby, Hope you didnt take offense to my comment. When I said, same old VS thread you either love them or hate them. What I was thinking was that I have never seen so many people get so involved on a topic like the quality or service of VS good or bad. This topic always gets alot of attention. I am in the same situation, good reels for last 4-5 years and they are starting to have failure and maintenance issues for me personally. When you pay so much for something you kind of figure it will be problem free.

I would imagine being a VS salesperson can be tough at times. How many shows do u think these guys go to where they have to defend their product.Especially at the price the demand.its like anything else. Its a good reel.I guess i never owned one most guys who own em like em some have trouble.an there are the folks who will bash em witout ownin one.Based on the cost alone.i say if u have plenty of doe do what u like.I think I have ran into some of these salestypes before.perhaps thats why I never took the leap.I would like to see some of the saltiga's displayed the same way.Where are thier salespeople.

I sold all my VS's so I can't comment on the line.

As far as reps go, I never buy from someone who has to put something else down to make his or her product look better.

it's just bad form.

That's too bad you ran into a walking billboard Toby.

I spoke with Craig at the MSBA show this weekend and he answered my questions, did not put down any other reels, just explained why VS reels do what they do different. And he gave me a hat Thanks again Craig

That raps it up 100%

In the Spring of last year I bought 9' one pice I was going to buy my first VS a 150 Silver I couldn't wait to get it.Well turns out they were changing hands and the new ownership wouldn't have the product ready till the Fall of 04.Well as always The well ran dry by then so I ended up putting on my Ahab 12A.

Funny how things work out I would of been pissed!Saving up all that $$$ getting it, then have it leaking out oil & blowing up!O that would of really Sucked!

Striperhound you hit the nail right on the head either you love-em or ya hate-em,that's all that I hear about them.

Talking

Is anyone looking for an old-style black VS 150 in good condition that has been retrofitted by Reel Ventures LLC? Let me know.

Ben,
How much more do you got to sell for the Saltiga?

Angry

VS reels are overpriced garbage.

You have to be mentally ill to rep for that broken company.

VS Representative

I was at the Rivers End Open House on March 19th and spoke with the VS Rep. I found him to be friendly towards me even after I told him that I had sold my VS and thought that the reels were not worth the price. He seemed very nice and cannot understand why any of you had a problem with him. Just my .02.
