There are two jigging methods: squidding and yo-yoing. For squidding, flip the jig and teaser away from the boat and let it drop to the bottom. Then engage the reel and quickly take up ten turns and then take five slow turns. If you get no hits than drop the jig back to the bottom and repeat the process until the jig is well under the boat. Then reel up and start over. For yo-yoing, cast the jig and tube uptide and let it sink to the bottom. Then engage the reel and bounce the jig off the bottom several times. You should get 2-3 bounces depending on the speed of the tide. When you can't feel the bottom, reel up a repeat the process

There are times when jigging can be very effective, especially when there is a lot of bait present. Also, jigging is the preferred method to fish for cod in northern New England. To set up for jigging, take a four-foot piece of 50 LB mono and tie a 5-inch dropper loop about a foot from one end. Attach a 6/0 Gamakatsu or Owner Octopus hook to the dropper loop and then attach either a 9-inch purple jelly worm or 4-6 inch tube like a Gitzit. My favorite colors are the pearl glow, red and purple. Bring a supply of different colors to see what is working. Now attach an 8-16 ounce diamond or Norwegian jig to the end of your leader. Most jigs come with treble hooks which should be replaced with a single 8/0 Limerick tube hook. Make sure your hooks are razor sharp.

....I use a variation of different methods....when something starts working.....STICK WITH IT!....thats my motto!!

....if all else fails.......PUT ON SOME CLAM!!!

Hey Bloo another way to jig is what we call dragging. Same basic setup as you. Use the lightest jig you can get away with, on anchor up to 17 ozs. but we drift mostly and and use jigs to 35 ozs. Cast uptide and engage reel when it hits the bottom. I like to rest the jig on the bootom wiggle a few times and then jerk-up hard. when you don't feel the bottom just let out more line till it hits again and start over I'll do this four or five times then reel in. If the hard jerking doesn't work then I'll just drag it just bouncing the tip. I use any of my old plastics but two teasers that seem to work best are bucktails tied on a 5/0 mustad or a pink/white grub.If all fails or you want more haddock go to bait!

hey Swede/Striper1.....what kind of set-ups are you guys gonna bring???...

..as far as tackle and gear??.....

....I'm not sure if I'm bringing my Penn "Delmar"... or my 330Gti...or both, in case the "Delmar" fails me....which it never has...I got a couple of mediocre "meat sticks that I'm still undecided about.....(I NEED A GOOD MEATSTICK!!)...but one of these will do for now...If you guys Cod often, what do you recommend??...

...a couple of jigs...teasers....and a bunch of hooks....I lent someone my LARGE sinker mold...and they seem to have misplaced it ...so I'll probably be buying some on the boat...I don't think I have many left. Maybe I'll get lucky and not "break" too many times....

...One of my last times out, I had about 20 left over Quahogs from the day before. I brought those with me...and tried using them... .wouldn't stay on the hook...it seemed Sea Clams were the way to go...the jigs weren't even
producing much.

...Hey CanalRatt, you make your reservation yet???.....

I'm pretty happy with the camera I ended up getting...its the only one that "states" to be "splash proof"....I've checked out the gasket areas, and it does seem decent!!.....The resolution is adequate....2.1 I tink...

...the price was decent....its the DC5000 made by Kodak. If you go to the Kodak Website, and punch in that model, they walk you through the operations of the camera.....ITS REALLY KOOL!!!...

....Unfortunately, its been discontinued.....(I can't figure out why!!)...I had to get mine from....(Thanks to JohnR ).....Cnet.com...

....Good Luck!!....Goose....
