Unhappy Cod Trip

We previously were looking to reschedule the Cod Trip for this weekend but that's not panning out. If I can get something arranged for March 15th or 16th or March 30 (Sunday the 31st is Easter) - who is interested?

Thanks,

John

I'm in! Bloo check the limits out, I think on a Party Boat there is no possesion limit just length. The guys on the Helin go home with more than ten every trip.

That was boggling my mind too......I've never stopped at ten fish....and I've never heard any kind of warning...

.....How do you think it works??....

... I was thinking maybe on those boats, they go by poundage quotas or something.....and maybe the captain kinda keeps track of the fish were catching.....and thats why he always leaves a GOOD SPOT quick....

...or is because he wants to keep the patrons happy the next day too/??....

???....is a charter boat considered Recreational or Commercial....???

...maybe on a charter boat, we go by the Comm. limits...???

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

As a rec on a headboat or charterboat, you have to follow the rec limits. Which as of last week were 10 total cod/haddock with a minimum length of 21 inches. This 5 limit /24 cod I have not heard of. Is this new this week?

John, it was on the front page of my local paper yesterday....

.....its a fact!!....not a 55 pounder.....

......"The new regulations require that a cod must be 24 inches long for a private fisherman to keep it, up from 21 inches, and a fisherman can catch a maximum of five fish per day, down from the previous 10 a day."....

....heres the link...http://www.heraldnews.com/site/news....id=99784&rfi=8

Bloo - I have found some conflicting info on that so far.

There may be a date of March 15th where the regs would come into effect but I have not seen or heard of any other definitive word on this....

I'll let you kow what I find...

Thanks,

John

Guys....I just called the MA DMF today to verify the new flounder regs. In addition to being now able to keep 3/day on flounder during the previous 3/1 - 4/30 closed season.....After 5/1 you can keep 8 instead of the previous 10. Same 12" minimum.

She also told me about the new cod regs......24"....5/day.

None of this anywhere on thier website....

OK - the word I got from Charlie Levine at TheFisherman that this is in the proposal, as well as closing off alot of areas in Mass/NH to rec anglers & party boat - is again a proposal that wouldn't occur until May 1st...

Charter boats with a headboat/charter boat multi species permit do not have a bag limit on the # of fish they can keep. Size limit will be 22 inches for customers aboard hired boats. Private boats will have to abide by the 24" /5 per day unless the decision gets revised b4 final implementation. Kinda wierd that the charter boats (my permit) would not have a higher size limit to mirror the one the recs are getting.
