704 line roller

I've found now that I'm fishing with my 704 quite a bit more that the line roller gets bound up pretty easily and the end result is line twist and a lost plug I keep it well lubed with superlube so that it'll keep turning but that only lasts so long.

Has anyone tried retro-fitting a ball bearing line roller to a 704?

Oh and I forgot to mention mine has been converted to manual pickup so would the roller setup from a 706 be compatible? The only thing with the 706 roller is the noise factor.

That's a bummer.Having a ball bearing roller would solve the problem.

It seems to me it would be such an easy thing(among other things!) for Penn to improve upon to make a good reel great.

This isn't very well known, but I have it on good authority that if anyone actually did upgrade a Z with roller bearings or an anti-reverse all the reels across the northeast would explode.

It seems so simple.

In reality nothing is simple so it would appear.
