I'd stay as close as possible. My wife popped 40 min after we got to the hospital.
And don't whimp out, when the time comes...grab a leg

JC,
Congrats!! My wife was 2 days late. Broke her water at 1230 am. Delivered 5:26 pm the next day. First child and I was like you...pacing!
I'd stay close! Go with what BJS said...probably work! Either that or take her for a ride down a bumpy road

A guy I know once told me.....
"When you leave the house to go to the hospital, take one last look around your house, because it will NEVER look that way again"
11+ years later and he STILL is 100% right

Stay put, don't go fishing. You'll likely need to take your wife to the hospital when the water breaks.
Also, while you're grabbing a leg and counting out loud, avoid wearing nice clothes in the labor and delivery room. It's a goshawful bloody mess.
Have your cameras packed.

You mean there was a choice? I had to grab a leg. My daughter is 16 months old, and her birth was by far the best event of my life. Pack the fishing stuff in the attic, you won't be using it for a while.

My wife went one day late. She had our daughter Tori Saturday night. She came fast. It was scary how fast she came. We got home yesterday afternoon. I have two weeks off from work and hope to build a couple rods amd catch up on my fly tying but who am I kidding, I will just stare at her all day.

Good to know someone else is in the same boat. My wife is due in 3 weeks (third time) but thinks she could go early this time (nudge-nudge). Cell phone won't work at Squibby or Pigs. I am stuck on this side of the bay and I'm not doing so well. Oh and I'm not catching many fish either.

First kid delivered in hospital after two trips there and 12 hours of labor, someone across the hall in birthing center screamed the whole time. My wife decided that was the last kid she would have in the hospital.
Second kid, midwives and planned home delivery, I was remodeling a home at the time and within hours of being done with the plan of taking a week off after the baby came.
Labor started at some point in the afternoon and when I got home from work she told me it started. I asked when she thought it would come and she said the next morning. We discussed it and decided that I could go back and finish up a few things since I would be off the job for a week. I went back for two hours and when I returned I took one look at her and said did you call the midwives yet? Nope so I called, twenty minutes later I delivered the baby all went well. The midwives showed up a half hour later.
Next kid the midwives were there a day early.
The only thing I'm sure about with when they come is that it's not on their due date.
