It'll be crowded on the beaches durring the daytime so fishing nights will be good idea. There are other good spots a few minuets from denis. You might want to try the bass river , thats in the area. Expect some schoolies there. Try swim shads, rebel swimmers. If the current is rippin go with jigs or a heavier spoon lure like a hopkins. The bass river might be good during the day time too. But check out the local tackle shops for details on access , ect.

Q and A.....

1. does it have big swells. NO
2. is it sandy. YES
3.is there big riptide. NO
4.whens best to go night day. Night but not there
5.High or low tide. High
6.fish on bech or jettie. Beaches have small rock jetties
7.are they way out or are they decent casting distance. Way out and around the corner
8.could you chunk or drift or just use plugs. Plugs
9.use a wheight or let the bait drift. Light weights for Porgies off the jetties
10.small or big fish. Maybe small bluefish but most likely just Porgies.

Your best bet is to get in your car and drive to Chatham or one of the backside beaches.

I believe it's on the sound-side, so swells and riptide are non-existant. Somebody mentioned Bass River, which is a place that you'll have a good chance for catching blues or schoolies. If you are going to fish west dennis beach, keep going until you can't go any further. I'm not sure what time they close the gate (or if they do at all). Be wary of that. There are other beaches around on the cape cod bay side, that may be better than the sound-side beaches. Most are sandy, with no surf. Some have jetties, and some have low-tide where you can wade way out. Night fishing will be your best bet in august, or so they say.

I have not posted for a while but still like to look and see what you all are doing over there .I think it was back in 2002 when i was over there last i was on holiday in the Dennis area hooked up with Fisher woman for a days fishing but when i was by myself caught a lot of schoolies in the bass river on
small shads . Be next year when i come back going to Texas this year.

Hi Keith - was wondering when you would show up again - look me up next year and I'll take ya fishing

Kyle - I don't fish that area so I have nothing specific but I would say for basic plugs, get some needlefish, yozuri mag darters (black back and/or green), and swimmers like bombers.... I would recommend that if you go at night, you CERTAINLY should have an adult with you. The beach at night is no place for a solo trip for an 11 year old....

No, unlike other people, I do not profess or claim to be godlike. Think I'm actually rather humble...

I responded here to you Kyle as you PM'd me about it. Get your mom that e-mail before I pull the plug... Thanks - get some fishes...

Tie a lure to to your fishing rod, cast and retrieve. Fishing is usually best early in the morning before the sun comes up around 5-7 A.M.and then at dusk, while the sun is setting at about 7-9 in the evening. Go swimming and enjoy yourself during the day.

So, walk down to the beach and start casting. All the talk on a message board isn't going to catch you one fish.

Sorry I missed this post!

Stay away from West Dennis Beach, water temps are way too warm to seriously consider anything more than rat blues and maybe a schoolie or two. Head to the Bayside beaches, Corporation, Sesuit Harbor.... after dark. Colder water, deeper water, rocks, that's where I'd go....
