I went further south and caught a 42 lb bluefin. The pic is posted under the "Tuna" thread.

We went to Wildcat Sunday morning....Ended up releasing 4 nice bluesharks. Biggest was probably in the 300 range??? One small one around 60 pounds or so, plus two "self releases". Here are a few photos.

A couple more. The last photo is when I had the "BRILLANT" idea of bringing a small (60 pounder) one into the boat.......BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Tantas on saturday and got skunked. Only the 2nd time that has happened. Lots of boats out there, mostly tuna fishing - No one seemed to be hooking anything but dogfish. Beautiful day on the water though. Lots of whales and a large school of dolphins.

What A Day!!

BIG thanks to Fishing Freak for all of his knowledge and nohow.
Because of him I landed my first shark, not the biggest of the day but what a fish.

Thanks again

Awesome! Nice work. I did the "tuna tour" thing Sat morning without a single sighting........ Were you guys in the deep water out there? 500+? Just curious.

yes and no.

Started the drift around 240ish and drifted over a hole around 500+ then back to the 240ish range.

Steady cod all day too, not very big though.

water depth doesn't matter.
just start the slick over some sort of structure. and never leave your slick! no matter whear the wind takes you.
they will find the source of the sllick... eventualy.
a two mile long slick is a good start.

two more big blue sharks today on southern jeff's
took a beating getting out there in head on 3-5' seas. but well worth the trip.

first one was about 150#. and the second can only be estimated at 300# easy,,, as my bud fought him for 40 minutes on a stand up 70 with 30#' drag.
had him to the leader three times but the shark had other plans.
big boy!!! tough to leader!!
no pics of the big one as it was only two of us and someone had to drive, wire etc... but he was big. clean release on the fourth attempt ,,
high fives and we headed for home.
sunburnt, beat, and tired...
