I like the "being there" especially surf-fishing. I fish a lot on the National Seashore and you can't beat the beauty of the place. And now....no plovers to worry about.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

The hunt and that one night a year when all heck breaks loose. That's when you have to be there and there's no telling which night it is! I haven't made up my mind whether I like fishing with friends or alone is better, it's all just so good. I ran into some townie acquaintences today, fixing a flat, we talked for hours, fishing stories, hunting tales, you know... some remembered my Grandfolks who've been gone for 25 years or better, and I thought how right this is, and how much that I missed living and working out here on the Cape.My answer, I guess is all of the above.

to me fishing is like going to church, i feel closest to my maker and all of his work. nothing beats sunrise, sunset, or a star filled dark sky on a rocky shoreline or a beach. wind, rain, surf in your face, or one of those calm clear nights. as far as the poll- i vote for the first 4 choices. met some good folk thru fishing and related activities- birds of a feather......

Slingah started a thread?

I knew when I saw the thread title it was you Slingah! I think I like the hunt/just being there the best....being with great friends, laughing with or at them when things are good or things get strange like if someone trips in a hole in the sand or something funny like that! When fishing alone, I just like the peace and quiet....starry nights....having a fox parallel you as you walk down the beach.....the sound of tails slapping......and just plain thinking about nothing but what is around me! Can't beat hammering fish with a buddy or two though.....and then afterwards trading stories about the nights catch! Maybe fibbing a little bit! I can't wait for the fall run!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

i like the feeling of being one with the ocean. Theres nothing like being perched up on a ledge and having huge rollers come in and explode under your feet shooting spray 20 feet over your head. I love the solitude, I love fishign allnight without a tap and almost falling asleap reeling in a needlefish slowly and being woken up by screaming drag. I love going to a spot knowing there will be fish there, i love the feeling i get landing big fish on a plug i made. and mostly the thing i love the most is outfishing #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&

Though I love just being out fishing -- the quiet eeriness of a late, foggy nite at the canal; the power of the crashing waves in Rhody; even the hustle and bustle of a busy day at a well-known spot -- there's nothing like fishing with your friends. It's good to know that there's someone who will watch your back, take your picture, and tell you that they're proud of you when you hook up large. And it's even better being able to do that for someone else. Fish, schmish. I always have a good time when I go out with another person, even if all we catch is the skunk.

The worst day fishing is better than the best day working. ...Wait a minute, my work IS fishing. Sweet.

The peace and quiet, the beauty and sound of the ocean, spending time with a good friend ,the thrill of a hit and the excitement of a blitz.

nice poll

It's a toss up with number one & 4.

The night before a trip is awesome, I like spending the time to inspect & prepare all of my gear,I want the pice of mind knowing that everything is ok and ready to rock-n-roll!"I don't like to wing it"or fly by the seat of my pant's.
Also when I go to bed, it's tuff to sleep knowing & antisipating of getting up & going to that "spot"....is sombody going to be in it?How many spot's will I'll have to go through to find where the fish are?How big will the fish be this time? Will I score that trophy.it's endless reviewing the plans....

Getting there is just as incredible, looking up at endless black sky litered with stars, some of them shooting across it,the suttle sounds of rolling waves or the trikle of the water with nobody in site it's just me and the water.
I count my blessing's everytime I can make it down to the water to fish and just take it all in.

I love every thing about fishing and in this poll,
But the best thing,
is the adrenile rush I get when a fish hits the bait or lure (especially a big fish)
Wheather it's when a rod doubles over and peels drag, or when I'm wire line jiggin and the fish hits the jig so HARD and feels like it's going to rip my arm off, or when a cod hits a cod jig from 300ft down and I can barely budge it from bottom!!!
Seeing tuna jump around my boat can raise my blood pressure a bit also!!!

I live for the times the current is right an the jig is just tickin the bottom u now there's fish there it's all too perfect. Then woom ur on.I live for the midnight runs one jetty after another the wind an tide are right an u vacuum every fish off the front's of the jetty's.I love the one that hits just bfor i pull it out of the water to remind me I am not alone. The sunrise an a live bait the wave rolls an u feel the take as a boil the size of my van appears. The sunrise an the peanuts are washin on the shore an all my crappy plugs work...I love preparin all my cool %$%$%$%$ an numerous lures for a road trip to narrow the selection down to a few plugs for the bag an catch 40 fish on one lure.Makin the walk over a mile on small rocks passin two good spots to get to a rock I know in shoulder high water climb up on an have my first cast an many others get inhaled by those pesky 15-20 lbers.Fishin the sand pure black night holdin my plug in the pull of the wave an the rod tip doubles over.Standin all in a row wit all my buds gettin fish on pencil poppers in the fall.hootin an hollerin with each explosion.jerzy giants on pencils waves soakin us on the jetty fronts gettin my 30 an then helpin others coachin some kid on how to land the giant he just hooked an gaffin it for em watchin in disbelief when his parents see his prized possession. Its all good when a plan comes together. I only remember the good times.Believe it or not I am not one of those chatty fishin types.I like to concentrate on what I am doin I guess.some might not consider that fun but it just puts me in a trance.I like how everything slows down when I hook a good fish to a Zen state o mind.(not even sure what that is but it sounded good) I can BS with the best o them later. Most importantly I Cherish The great places I have traveled an all the friends I have made who share the same love of this great sport for whatever reason.

I should have read the tread a bit closer!!!

In that case,
Watching my sons, especially my son Leo fish on my boat, weather he is letting out lines, rigging up rods, driving the boat, ect....

Watching 2 of my buddies puke over the side of my boat all day
(like yesterday) is fun also!!! lightweights!!!
