knots
Does anyone here use a bimini twist either from the beach or in a boat setting? If so why and in what circumstances? I have always joined the main line to leader through a swivel and then to a snap or snelled hook.
Does a bimini twist get tied in the leader? Or on the mainline?
Thanks.

bimini goes in the main line. used for loop to loop conections that can be taken apart eisier. doubling up light line,,etc...
i use it on 80# test so i can put a stronger knot to the swivel.
four foot bimini then offshore swivel knot to the swivel.
tricky knot to tie but 100% strenght when done right.

I have on the boat when I had it with 6lb test and went to a swivel
I forgot the name of the knot but I can make it , it looks like 2 clinch knots
the reason was to keep the knot strong.
P.S.
I used a spider hitch also when needing some thing super fast

I use biminis whenever I want to get a 100% knot that is rugged, has good shock absorption (unlike a spiderhitch) and will last a while, often for loop to loop connections. Normally I use it in light tackle situations or when making a mono to braid connection.
According to people that test this sort of thing, in braid, a 70 turn bimini will give only about 90% strength: 30 turns yeilds about 70%.

Too much trouble. If i used a bimini at the canal i'd be tying knots all night instead of fishing.
Anyway with albrights , opposing uniknots and/or a bloodknot , I don't need no twist and turn and use both ands and feet etc bimini!

Freak,
Do you put the bimini twist in the main line and then tie the double line to a swivel and then a leader? Or do you tie the double line direct to the leader through another knot without a swivel?

Unless you are seeking 100 pound plus Tunoids or some such larger gamefish it is totally unnescesary to employ a Bimini Hitch while Bass, Blue, Albie etc., fishing. A well tied Improved Clinch knot and a well tied Bloodknot will be the knots used 90% of the time. Tied correctly a Improved Clinch gives 99% knot strength. Given that most lines are way underated when it comes to lb. test as listed on the box except for IGFA rated lines, the 1% +/- in strength values are negated. If you seek a modicum more in the way of insuring knot strength totality, keep, as I do, a small bottle of Zap-A-Gap Super Glue. It's the only brand so far known to be 100% non-water soluable. Just a tiny drop on a knot will keep your mind free from worry. Just my take. Hell, this past weekend we were school Bluefin Tuna fishing and those are the knots we use on the gear. No problems encountered.
