Going Fishing!

Looks like I have off on on Friday, so I'm going fishing for the first time this year!
Heading to Rhody somewhere. If anyone is off and is interested in hooking up to wet a line let me know.

High tide is about 2:15 pm friday at the west wall. If the wind is out of the west or southwest the conditions should be ideal from 2-6 pm. If this is the case I will be there at 4:30 pm. This is your best bet in Rhody unless you hit the toilet, but it would take some large to get me up there

I was thinking of fishing Matunuck in the morning and then heading to the west wall in the afternoon. I will probably be gone by 4:30 but who knows.... If you see a guy slaying the schoolies with a a blue M&D's Bait and Tackle baseball cap on, come over and say hello.

hmmmm.....Friday......

Where be the West Wall anyway? I must admit my knowledge is local, very local, to the north shore, and probably limited at that.

How about a west wall primer from some of the RI contingent.

Thanx

95 to Rt. 4 to Rt. 1 - take the Snug Harbor/Jerusalem exit which will be a left exit and u turn on Rt. 1. Follow signs and stay to the right after you get off Rt. 1. This will bring you by E.Matunuck Beach- follow to the end and park across the street from Skips Dock. Walk straight up the road in front of you to beach/wall. S.O.T.B., you may miss the best action of the day-stay til dusk!!!!

Weather.com is calling for west wind 10-15 for friday with a front aproaching friday night. Doesn't get any better than that. Nightfighter, a light surf outfit with a 1oz white bucktail with white curly tail will do the trick. If you can cast into a stiff wind with a lighter outfit that will be even better since these will be all schoolies. I am sooo there!!!!

Hey Scotch, it was made very clear to me that I have off FriDAY not Friday night That's why I'm going to hit the suds early. I'll probably still fish matunuck beach at low tide and then I may stay at the west wall or head further west in the afternoon. Good luck out there!

There were plenty of fish to go around at the Wall this evening, with good action early on. Can't make it myself Friday, but it looks good. Good luck

Sorry to jump into your thread, but I have been looking for some places to fish in Rhode Island myself, and was wondering if there is any room at the West Wall for a plugger (i.e. water depth, etc)or even if it is worth plugging that area this early, or if there are any other locations that you might suggest for using a plug.

Thanks for any help or pointers you can give me, I am kinda knew to the striper scene and am trying to learn as much as possible.

Hi ENgineer , welcome to the board. You could plug at the wall later in the season. Now you want small jigs. The standard jig is a 1/2 OZ upperman (flat head type) jig. They love teasers and plastic shad bodies and small fin s fish and curltails. All small stuff about 2 to 4 inches long. If you just want to plug , wait a month. then you might have some luck.

Go here to read about fishing the wall and about jig fishing techniques for the early spring.

..If you plan on fishing the "Wall"...make sure you fish the outgoing....me and StriperBrain spent some bone-chilling time on the wall early this afternoon.....and the only bumps we got were from our shivering bodies.....

..it wasn't that bad, but it was nippy....

we bumped into a native who insisted he'd heard of Bass taking plugs already....20" fish...

.....we got nada!!...but I'm sure they're murdering them as I type....the tide is good, and so's the sun....

Good Lucky!!!......

First Bass of 2002!!!!

You guys missed all the action . The West Wall is a late afternoon game(doesn't matter ebb or flood). Got there at 4:30 and had 7 to the rocks by 5:30(all rats). The guy next to me hooked into a NICE bass about 24 inches and got it to the rocks and panicked. 8 lb test and in jeans and sneakers, he was trying to bring it up and snapped the line - dead bass in the rocks Light tackle is good, just not too light! By 6 pm I was frozen! This time of year you got to dress WARM, even if it feels mild at the house. Feels good to be back in the saddle!!!!!!

NECN, If I had to pick an area in RI to plug it would have to be Narragansett. Ocean road to be specific. In your vehicle you can scout from Narragansett beach to Point Judith with many points in between(Narr. pier, Hazard ave, Newton ave, Black point, Scarborough beach, etc.) These are all prime striper and blue hotspots and will be heating up in 4-6 weeks. My first lure of choice for this area would be a saltwater Rattletrap, second would be a nice wood popper. For right now its the west wall and shortly any of the breachways as all the stripers file in for the WORM HATCH
