Another Vote for Oxen Free...
I think "Ollie Ollie Infantry" is what the Contras in Nicaragua used to yell when they played.

Though I'd like to stick with the girls' team, it is oxen free -- even in my day, which was pretty recently.

The worst day fishing is better than the best day working. ...Wait a minute, my work IS fishing. Sweet.

Scottish/ British origins, originally " All ye, All ye, Walks in Free"
Couple that with a Scottish, or even a Cockney accent, hollered through cupped hands, early Americans heard it as "Olly, Olly, Oxen Free"
PNG is right, the other is waaaay too funny

I 2nd dads opinion:
it was OLLY OLLY IN COME freeeeee...
meaning all other players could enter the zone without penalty.
as many were still hiding when someone had already kicked the can.

found this info ...
discovered that this game had been created in the 1800s in Scotland,
and in no time at all ->>>they were playing it in England...
Well obviously it made it to the United States because we all played it as kids..
What did you call out when it was time to call the unfound in????
WELL WE MESSED UP.. HOW THE GAME WAS CREATED was
when it was time to call out you would yell
CALLING ALL THE OUTS IN FREE
---------------------------------------------------------------
and an even better explanation is
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe this game is very old and originated in Great Britain.
Olli Olli oxen free is really "All ye All ye walks in free" said very fast
with a stong lower-class British accent. To an American ear it would sound like
All e All e aux in free when said quickly.
With a lower-class British accent, the "w" gets dropped in "walks" as
does the "y" in "ye." Try it a few times and you will see what I mean.
