To the F'er that helped themselves to a couple of my eels last night...

If you are reading this I hope the Karma police come and snatch your 50 away right at your feet... may your reels sieze and your leaders part, or just hope I dont run into you on the rocks and catch you doing that again.....

I was at a well knwon spot last night, fishing eels... left my spare rod and soft lunch bag/cooler I use for my eel behind me on a rock, probably 40-50ft from where I was standing... Fished for a while. People came and went, landed one decent fish in the mid teens, went up for another eels after a cast off, thats 2 eels gone.. lost another on a fish; thats 3 eels... went to get another eel from my cooler and there was one shoestring left out of 6... that means the someone out of the four or 5 guys who came and went during the 20min or so between re-eeling, helped themselves to 2 eels.. I wish I had seen you do it or knew who you were, I wouldnt have been a happy camper, as I didnt get a sniff on plugs after that...
You know all the spot BS, and stuff that went on lately, I still figured noone would stoop that low, I guess it's too be expected when you grab a fish right in front of them.... Makes me rething bringing a spare rod (long walk) or having to leave it closer to where I'm standing.....

Perhaps is was the shift in Karma that allowed you to catch some nice fish?

Nope, zipped up tighter than a drum.. I thought of that, and was stewing on this for a while... and debated putting this up here because of the slight possibility of that, however I have never had an eel escape from that... just people being an ass.... besides the two left had been fished, and cycled out for fresher ones, they werent too 'lively'..
It's tough to tell because a few other guys had put gear down near mine at least twice, and my guy instinct said one of them stopped near my stuff when he walked by... However I was quietly landing another fish... (no light stealth mode ) when the kept walking I shined my light to make sure my rod/eelbag was still there and kept fishing.....

Unbelievable. Another of the bad results from spot-burning... Especially if it is where it sounds like you were Bryan.

About 10 years ago a buddy & I were fishing an outflow on the inside of the Cape - in broad daylight - and he left a spare rod and some tackle on the beach. We were wading way out in the rip, heard some noise, and turned around to see a bunch of guys taking off with his stuff in a truck.

I learned my lesson and now never leave anything on the beach or rocks. I'm even worried whenever I'm fishing about stuff left in my truck.

Bryan,
Make sure the eels didn't find a hole between the liners of the bag. The outer liner occasionally rips. I thought I was missing a few eels the other night. I found them "by scent" a few days later.

Checked that too.. my old one had ripped, this one is fairly new....
I was pretty thorough before I posted this, wanted to be sure... hey I'll leave it open there was a slight possibility they got out, but my gut says they didnt...

I never had a person take my eels without permission. Now there was this fox (Not a babe , an actual fox) down in Chatham who couldn't be trusted!! Turn your back on him and his head was in the bucket.

If It's not attached to me, I don't bring it.

Sucks that that's the way things need to be, but, I keep everything, tackle, eels, etc on me at all times.

Just get a mesh bag that can attach to your belt to put your eels in.

Clammer, You're my hero.

If I came back to a few less eels, yes, I would be pissed, but I'd also feel lucky that my entire cooler and spare rod were still there. That's like someone reaching into your purse and pulling out a few ones instead of taking the whole thing.

I think someone should invent an eel hat. Like the ladies that carry fruit or water urns on their heads -- just strap your eel container to your skull. Bet you'll notice if anyone's ganking them.

The worst day fishing is better than the best day working. ...Wait a minute, my work IS fishing. Sweet.
