Going to Costa Rica to fish...I mean go for my honeymoon!
Has Anyone been fishing in Costa Rica....I know it's probably a long shot but thought I would give it a shot! I hear the fishing is awesome down there. I'm getting married December 30,2000 and we are heading to the Gulf of Papagayo(Pacific side of Costa Rica) on Jan1-8!
Naturally, one day of the honeymoon will be spent on a Charter Boat hunting billfish and anything else you can catch down that way. Looking for any info I can get!
Thanks!!

I suppose it's too late to talk you out of the marrage thing, lol. First it's marrage, then it's a home & those damn to do lists, then comes kids & the minivans going to all the games on the best tides, all the while your fishing time starts to become harder and harder to find. Well I tried, so I guess I will say congrat's you damn fool, lol.
Sorry I can't help you on the fishing down there, but it there are fishing boards up here, you can bet they have some down there. I would suggest trying to locate a good guide and book a trip well in advance and early on in your trip. Then you will have a clue and might be able to get in on some fishing on your own. Maybe you new bride will carry the bait bucket for you.
Good luck and tight lines.
ps: Advise is wasted on youth, lol.

This A.M. on ESPN the Spainish Fly show they were catching sailfish on flyrods. Boy do those fish dance on the water.
I think there is alot of other fish down there, go out on a charter and have a blast. good luck with your wedding plans.

Don't listen to Got Stripers... there are plenty of good things about being married.
Unfortunately, they'll be over the minute your plane leaves Costa Rica. Hence the expression "the honeymoon is over"
I really don't know anything about that area, but I recently made a trip to Florida which I knew little about. You got the tools right in front of you... I just started doin' research on the net and found a ton of info. I called a few guides and talked to them a bit. Then I just picked the one I was comfortable with. They will be happy to tell you about the different fish, what's good at this time of year, etc. etc.
It worked out well for me and I had a great time.
Good luck with the wedding, fishing, etc.

Welcome to the legions of the doomed!!! hehehe... Seriously, congratulations to you and your soon to be bride!! May she be VERY understanding... Having just enetered Got Stripers third phase of progression ( first baby is one week old) the only advice I can offer you is have fun and get your sleep while you can :P
What do you want to fish for? They may have Velociraptors on Cocco Island where they filmed Jurrasic Park I do know that they have Roosterfish which get much larger than Stripers that you can fish from shore... And of course, you have all of the sail/billfish. Shucks Darn. To think I only went to Truro to fish on my honeymoon :'(

Thanks for all the comments and nice words about what I am about to do. I honestly had two different people(both friends of mine) who inserted on the wedding invitation reply card "don't do it!" I'm not sure if they were talking to me or my fiance who opened the reply's.
I found some websites for different charter companies down there. I'll surely let everyone now how the fishing down there is!
