Christmas presents...fishing related of course
On the spur of the moment I just bought my girlfriend her very first surf fishing setup as a christmas present.I got her a Tica 9ft med.action 2pc rod thru CapeCod Tackle(gotta support our sponsors!) and thru another link I found in the "fishing pliers" thread(thanks for posting it Springtides) a Daiwa Laguna 5000 spinning reel.
Nothing says "I love you" like her very first surf rod
Now what do I want?Let me think............................................. .........

I got the best both of worlds. She likes to fish but she'll never strap on korkers
and go rock climbing or get up at 1am to make a 2am hightide. She caught her
first bass this year after a about a half dozen outings and it was a very thrilling experience for her but she's always used one my setups.I really think she would appreciate having a setup she can call her very own.
I'll eventually get a small plug bag and fill it with some basic plugs and get her a decent set of waterproof knee boots so she doesn't have to tip-toe around the waterline everytime a wave comes in.

The rod didn't work out as Mike no longer mail orders rods/blanks.
Got a great line on a Daiwa Emblem surf rod.
Question...anybody own or have any experience with these rods?

Not the Emblem, but the Sealine X series. Great for a cheap 2pc. Have one from keeping in the work truck, with many large on it. Much better than I expected.

The prices between the two are about the same.,but the Sealine has foam grips which I as a surf fisherman hate though the Sea-line is supposed to be the better stick. The foam grips just get way to nasty.
I just hate spending a ton of cash on a setup that won't be used more than a dozen times. But at the same time i don't want her to have complete junk. The Laguna reels are great for the price as are the Tica rods but the local shops here are selling the Tica rods for way more than they're worth.

Do you know how many 704's you can buy for that money?
I would love a reel like that may be to big for stripers though?
