Speaking with a DEM employee who was in the process of closing the gates to Gooseberry Island at 5 pm today and "everyday till further notice" per a request of the Westport Police Department, due to 4 automobiles being driven into the water via the boat ramp in the past week.
I asked him about who i should speak to and how long these closing hours were going to last, he didn't have any concrete answers for me other than the closing of the gate coincide with the last man out locks up the gates to both horseneck and now gooseberry. I did get a somewhat positive response from this guy about the closing hours to gooseberry being extended to 8-10 pm in the evening once the camp ground opens up next weekend. i'll post more info as i get it..

of all the things i've lost...i miss my mind the most!!
That is very unfortunate. It was one of the only 'legal' spots you could park and fish at night other than by the bridge which I hear they are working on.
When pushed in a corner in the 1700's they picked up muskets. What can you do now??? When it's easier to take everyone's rights/priveleges away - rather than expend the energy to punish those responsible!!!! Oh, I'm sorry---no one is deemed responsible in the year 2002.
