my experience...

Best of the MA North Shore boats are the Yankee Fleet out of Gloucester....consistant, quality, the best of the regular boats in MA

I have not been out with Walsh's out of Lynn MA, but reports from those that have seem positive

Best of the south shore is Captain John's out of Plymouth....A friend did real good last week,,,this is a consistant quality fleet, not quite Yankee but a strong number 2

Worst of all time is the Andy Lynn...one spring MSBA trip they gave us frozen squid for bait while we all know they dredge and sell clams to the fleet....they stink, horrible, poor quality, ripoff...years ago they were good....now pewwwwww.....I'd rather not fish than go on this boat

Francis fleet out of Gallilee RI is also quality

Now Shimano Stradic is great and high end just like Yankee, Capt Johns and Francis fleet out of RI. Bu if you want Van Stall, Saltiga, Top of the line all the way....Helen H out of Hyannis is world class, the owner is arrogant but backs it up, great boat, top of the line tackle....good catches....my first reccomendation....you pay for it, but it is the very best

For party boat, I would stay away from the A/L - very hit or miss whether you will have a good experience or a really bad one.... Capt Johns are OK. For a 6 pack down your way, one of our sponsors has a good rep and much successes, Capt Dave: http://www.nauticaladventure.net/

Generally when I charter for groundfish, I go north of Boston and when I charter stripers, I go south of Boston. For cod I go exclusively with the larger party boats with spacious cabins. For stripers I splurge on a six-pack boat.

I used to use Yankee Fleet. Now I use Captain's Fishing out of Newburyport every year.

http://www.captainsfishing.com/

Staff is always patient and the boat is top notch. Both outfits tend to target Jeffries Ledge. I've been out on Wash's too and have been very impressed. If you want to fish Stellwagen Bank for groundfish, Captain John's is OK and their heated railing is a big plus on the colder days.

Patrick (or anyone else), when was the last time you went out with the Yankee Fleet? Has it been in the past year or two? If so, might be time for me to check them out again.

Well headed out today with my friend Capt Mike Neto on my boat Rhode Island Popper, We started inshore around the "B" bouy a few very small fish headed out to the spawning grounds where I got the big skunk "0" while Capt Mike got 5 Nice Cod one 8 pound and 4 between 25 and 30 pounds. Talk about yolk on face; all I caught was 1/2 dozen shorts and a couple Dog Fish. WOW, Nice of the guy to come on my boat and skunk me LOL. well that's my report.

I was out at that spawning area sat. and it sucked!!!
LOTS of boats and very few fish seen caught,
Accept for all the dogfish!!!
Saw a few fish reeled up with the tails bitten off by dogfish!!!
Went out a few miles further and found small pollack and MORE dogfish!!!
Makes me wonder,
It's a known spawning area there, the cod come there to lay eggs and whats happens to the eggs when they become baby cod?
THEY GET EATEN BY THE DOGFISH!!!
