north shore report

Threw some rubba late last night on outgoing tide. First skunk is outta the way for me anyway.

But the good news is that local Marblehead surfcaster was there and he reported getting 18 fish including 2 keepahs on Tuesday night! Weighted clams with a floater were on the menu. Seaworms in his box too!

Granted I didn't see any of these fish, but Mike has never come off as a braggart to me. It ain't any secret around here that Devereaux Beach has been known to give up it's share of fish.

Just damn good to hear that 2002 has begun opening up a little!

Thars good news for those of us on Cape Ann. Its been a relatively slow week here but got the first few schoolies of the year.

looks like I might have to get a few clams and give those a try. The Bomber Long-A has been consistent as well as the Yo-Zuri minnows. Havent done anything on rubber as of yet but the warm days should help.

Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah the weighted clam technique with a bobber is by far the most effective method for fishing the rocky bottoms of the north shore, it's critical to keep your line out of the rocks there. I've heard of some good reports out on Nahant by the Northeastern University Campus down at the point, but they're still mostly schoolies. I'm heading out for the first time this weekend near Deer Island in Winthrop, i'll let everyone know if I see any running through the harbor.

cocco,

My feeling is the exact opposite. It is a rare thing for me to use a float when fishing any type of dead bait. I prefer to use the bottom to my advantage and get into all the holes where the fish are laying. I do better % wise when using a bait rig with no float.

Especially when im fishing my usual spots. You know the bottom and where the big obstructions are.

They're baaaaack.......

Got the skunk off my back, locally. threw some of Got Stripers' 4" white rubba, on a FW teaser rig at lunch today. 27 1/2" on the third or fourth cast! A couple smaller fish after that, but they're here. Was fishing Castle Rock.

Gotta hand it to GS and FW for the numerous new combos I am carrying in my surf bag, as well as all over my van. The MSBA show was just what I needed to restock for most of the conditions I could see myself fishing this year.

And then there's the Saltheart Allstar that I can't wait to get in my hands!

Fish last night, in Quincy got 3 to 27" on fresh dead herring, and clams. Gave away some GS rubber to some other guys who were fishing rubber. I also gave them a card out of the hitchhiker package. They were really impressed Bob, and I think you will be hearing from them.
