trolling motor
Hey Gang,
I need advice on a trolling motor. I have a Parker 23, the bow is too high for a bow mount. Lenco has a new product 2 motorguides 84# thrust each, mounted on a mini-trim tab. I know they had issues w/the actual troll and trim, however, these are totally out of the water when not in use.

Any feedback would be great.

The video they have has examples with two flats boats, and what looked like a deck boat in FAC conditions. Nothing with the deep V, or the wind and current we deal with up here. They say it can handle boats up to 30', but they don't show a video of that. If I saw a 30 footer cruise thru Woods Hole under their power I'd be convinced.

Color me skeptical. The boat they show in the video appears to be very lightly built and the guy doesn't have to cope with either wind or tide. Put that baby off Block Island and I'll bet you'd get a completely different picture.

The motors would be used just to re-position the boat in areas that eat props. I do alot of flyfishing, so casting position in relation to the wind is critical. I like fishing the rocks off Sakonnet Pt at night and a my 200hp 4-stroke sounds like a freight train at 2 am. The wind/surf usually calmes down after sunset and that is when I like to fish tight.
I would not use the motors in snotty water conditions in the rocks.
I think I am taking the plunge. We will see how they work in a few months.

maiden voyage
trolling motors have been installed and ready to go. I will be on the water Sunday 4.9.06 am. I hope these things work well, I've spent a ton of money for the motors and installation. Planning on a practice session in the open water, no rocks needed.
I will post results Sunday afternoon.

good luck let us know how it goes.
i always wondered about those wierd trim tab trolling motors? does that defeat the purpose of the trim tabs? creating tons of resistance? full load and tabs down on a plane, those things gotta be spinnin wickid faster than they were designed for?

Mike, that particular one does NOT look like it is to be used as a trim tab like ones I have seen in the past. I bet you raise those up when getting up on plane so they are out of the way.

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

It looks like the tabs work like any other tabs once the trolling motors are up out of the water, look at the 2 angles on the plate.
