Fishing In Boston Area

I'm looking for some help in regards to fishing the boston area. I typically fish the cape cod canal and the beaches in RI, but this summer I am living in Boston and would like to start fishing something a little closer to me. I have tried to contact some people through email, (ie bait shops, etc..) but nobody has gotten back to me. Ideally I'm looking for a few spots to try fishing from shore that are somewhere close to the city. I know the harbor provides good fishing but is that accesible only by boat or are there some spots from shore that allow for good fishing? Any kind of information on fishing in Boston would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to post or contact me by email at jsox21@aol.com

jsox21, the harbor provides excellent fishing from the shore and boat. What type of fishing are looking for? Schoolies or large, bait or artificial, night or day...

A couple quick suggestions before I run to a support call... the last two months of On the Water have run articles on fishing the harbor from shore.

These articles provided some good info and would be worth getting a hold of.

Also, check out Bill'n'Juls shore guiding service here on the site. They are very experienced at fishing the Boston Harbor area and you could probably learn alot about the area and successful techniques to try... a couple trips with them would be worth the reasonable cost.

Gotta run.

Thanks for your response. I infact have picked up the latest edition of On the Water and sent an email looking to go fishing with the guide service. I am looking to fish for striped bass and bluefish and I have a spinning outfit that I currently use. Most often I will be fishing at night after I leave the office so probably in the 7pm time frame. Also I am looking for people to fish with, since I am in Boston and none of my friends fish it would be nice to find some people to go fishing with, anyone interested in maybe getting a group of guys together to do some fishing in the Boston area??

Jsox - welcome to S-B... If you are considering a Boston Area Guide service for shore fishing, you may want to look up Fisherwoman's other half http://www.striped-bass.com/guides/billnjuls.shtml - I know him very well, excellent angler, and he focuses a lot on the Boston - South Shore area....
