my boiler went spaztic !!

all weekend were noticing this black soot arround the house.
the kids feet are wickid dirty, there clothes..there faces...everything plastic in the house is covered with black soot..
after a few days i go in the basement and !%$%$%$%$!!! the oil boiler is huffin' black soot out at like 60 puffs per second.
shut it down lucky the house didn't burn down. call the boiler repair guy he sais it's clogged up and running rich. whatever???, the boilers fixed..
but NOW!! my friggin' house after two days of this huffing,, is friggin' discusting like you would not believe!!
black SOOT EVERYWHEAR!!! the curtains the fridge the walls. kids are snorting black boogies out there noses. it's everywhear.
it's like there WAS a FIRE!!!

WTF?? should i call ins. co.?? maybe have servpro clean this mess up because i can't keep up with it and i'm overwhelmed. . big time.
every plug hangin' ...every piece of clothing.... EVERYTHING is friggin' BLACK soot....top to bottom!!!!
every !##@$ thing!!!!!!!!!!!

well if u had a little "click" o friends they could come over an hook u up.
That sucks.Lots of the tile wharehouses have oil forced hot air makes all the stock black.i hate that crap.Gotta be tough to klean up its like grease dust.Fantanstic an paper towels.Allot of stuff could be ruined call ur insurance company an see what they say.

Call insurance co., that's what it's for.
I had my hot water heater leak overnight a few years ago. F%$#@ water all over my finished basement. Insurance paid for it all. Like 10k if I remember right. Rate didn't even go up.

Same happened to my brother in law a few years ago. If you can deal with it yourself DO IT. But do it NOW, that crap aint good for ya, if its everywhere, then they (kids) are breathing it in. It can't possible effect your lungs !!!! but aint good for the little freaks.

In their case, they notified insurance CO. who notified the city (maybe DSS) and made them move out because it was a hazard to the kids. Their mess was only in the basement, did not go through the house. Still they were out of their own house for weeks and until the "department" decided it was safe to inhabit again. NIGHTMARE!!

When I had that small fire in my daughters room, I called a fire/water restoration co and they came down and cleaned, I paid for it myslef no insurance CO.

Maybe get a carpet cleaning co in then and vacuum and wash the entire house.

Happened to us when I was a kid. I remember the oil furnace guy saying, "What you had was a puff-back." My folks homeowners insurance covered a professional cleaning. Check it out, otherwise you're going to be finding and breathing it forever.

the soot problem is in the basement.. so cleaning the top floors is doing nothing!! it comes right back!!
the carpets under the door jambs are black so it's comming up thru the stairwells with the rising heat.
the wife took the kids to CT. to stay with her mom and i'm calling the ins. co. in the morning!!!!

Mike, screw tomorrow. Call your agent at home RIGHT NOW. They'll have sevice Pro or another emergency clean up company there on their dime. I have followed up on those types of home repairs before and they do a good job of getting rid of the crap, be it smoke, soot, or water damage. Only problem I've encountered has been when they cut sheetrock walls out after a flood, they didn't use a guide, so was too crooked to save upper half of walls.

The first thing they asked for was the maintenance records.
He did not have regular maintenance so they did not cover him.

Beware of "preffered vendors" the insurance company sends on "their behalf". Companies like Servicemaster do not have your interests first, as the majority of their work is for insurers. I have a little experience in oil soot claims and these are some spots the "preffered vendor" the insurance company sends will miss. Soot will travel up any hole in the cellar (wiring, plumbing, heat ducts, etc,) and contaminate the wall cavities. Soot can get in the electrical boxes and light fixtures. My electrical service also contained soot. It can get into appliances and electronics. Servicemaster will clean the surfaces only on these things. I ended up hiring a scientist to take samples on these items and 9 out of 10 had soot in them. The oil soot is highly corrosive and according to the manufacturers I contacted, these items should be replaced. I wouldn't volunteer that you tried to clean anything yourself, as there are certain methods used to minimize the damage. If the furnace is still malfunctioning, it should be turned off.

i rent. i have 50k renters policy.
my boss..the owner of the body shop,, also owns the house.
the boiler was fixed and it was cleaned every year on schedual.
it came up thru the walls, the outlets, every little crack like rock-on said. i just went on a columbo mission and was SHOCKED!!!! it traveled up thru the walls, from the basement, three stories up and into the kids room and came in cracks between the sheetrock and the floor.
i gotta wait til morning to call ins. co after i talk with the bossman.
no worries til then as the damage is allready done..

Oh man that sux. You have forced hot air? You need those portable honeywell air filters that the painters use to get the dust out before they start their finish. Or a Jet air handler like I use in the shop. Hope the boss is reasonable

Dood shut the furnace down if it's still blowing this stuff there is still something wrong man. Carbon Monoxide is nothing to fool around with Mike. That really stinks. Insurance will cover this if the maint records are ok. That is a mess. Stinks too prob.

hot water heet. oil fired, tankless system..
problem was nobody caught this boiler going beserk.. bieng three floors up...and in the winter i'm the only one goes thru the bulkhead.
it's an old 4 story colonial house with the 2 oil burners in the basement. there's also a girl lives on floor one....
i got floor two and three.

i asked her if she got all sooted up and she sais no?? probly she don't have 5500 plastic kids toys hanging arround to notice it sticking to everything.
it looks like 250 mechanics live here.
or the fbi let off a fingerprint BOMB!!!

Your landlords insurance should pay for temporary housing while they clean/paint etc. Also if you plan on cleaning any of your stuff use a "chem sponge". This is a rubber sponge that the soot will cling to. Don't use water until you get the majority of the soot sponged off. Add TSP to the water for a final cleaning after sponging.
