Depends what you want to get out of it. It definitely hasn't been a "how-to" type show so far which is fine, many shows which try to be that fail anyways. As someone who runs a shop that has a charter business I was simply fascinated...
There was a whole bunch of things NOT to do as a guide in there. But much of it rang true. The captain staring at his $200 fuel bill and thinking about how it was only 2 days of fuel was included which I thought was great since that struck close to home.
It was an amusing 1/2 hour of TV, imo.

Is the show supposed to be another type of reality show?

Yeah. It kind of works in some ways, for me at least. I'm usually bored out of my mind by most fishing shows but I'm riveted by this one. I've met several of the people in the show either at the SWE or at fly-fishing shows over the years so it's particularly interesting to see how they handle Montauk with clients.
I actually had the idea of doing a fishing reality show as well for a while. SWE Real World. There's enough characters here to keep a show going for years. The Ironman alone is a dozen episodes. SWE crew after hours on the town is also virtually guaranteed high ratings. Plus the fishing!

In regards to fishing spots, no. There would definitely be some serious editing...

I saw it today. I thought it was a little too much like a reality show and less like a fishing show. I have never been to montauk but it looks like it is quite a place. Seems as though it can get crowded up there at the point and that those boats probablly fight each other during the massive blitz's. I don't personally like to fish battling other boats all day that said I would def watch this show again.
I didn't see more that five fish landed on the show and they were all under 30 inches, even seeing an albie landed would make it a little more like a fishing show.

Aren't all fishing shows reality shows?
I really liked this one... It really shows you what the life is like, and that is pretty cool IMHO.

I saw it and quite frankly, it looked like the guides really didn't know what they were doing, it seemed like all they did was chase blitzes and sit around and wait for blitzes. I don't know anything about Mantauk, so maybe that is how everybody does it around there, I don't know.
The part that amused me was how when they were out a few hundred yards from the shore and one of the guides was commenting on how there were a lot of surfcasters lined up on the shore, so that must mean the fish are around or a that a blitz may happen here. If I was paying a guide and that's the best they could do I would be pissed! Oh yeah and not a lot of fish were caught at all, the woman guide only got her client on one fish and one guy only got a couple of small ones too....

My first thought was why would you put your sports in that postion, one guy hooked a boat with his back cast, getting to close to the beach, and fishing in the middle of all them boats is lame.
It's the fall run motor down the beach a ways it should be happing all over.
I did not see to many fish caught and when a sport hooked up with a few small schoolies the guide was saying this is why people come to Montauk

I like the show because I have been part of the combat fishing which is Montauk in the fall. Pretty accurate depiction of the guides and type of fishing that happens there in the fall. What happens there gives new meaning to "run and gun" The surf guys are trying to take boats out with 3.5 oz pencil poppers and boats end up on the beach. It really is an experience everyone should participate in 1 time, thats why they call it MECCA.

now THAT would make an incredible show! Especially if there was another "needlefish rock" episode.

I am disappointed in this show. When I saw the blurb on it in the on-screen preview I thought it would be much better.
No offense to the fly fishers out there, but when I think of Montauk and the fall run I think of big bruiser bass. Not tiny deceivers tossed at a ball of rolling schoolies. I've fished Montauk in the fall for several years, and there is so much potential for better fish. They were getting all excited about a 30" bass. Ho-hum.
Maybe it will get better. I'd actually rather see them liveline some big baits and haul in some trophy fish.

I wonder..
What would happen if they would stay away from the crowd of boats and (combat fishing)and dropped down a chunk of pogy or a live pogy for that matter. If they could get the bait down I bet there are some Hogs under/around those blitz's.
I personlay dont see spending hundreds of dollars to catch/chase schoolies for ten hours in that mess. It's still amusing to watch.
