Question Decisions

What do you think I should do/
repower or get another boat/
priced a 2003 90hp 4 stroke today with new starter switch,controls s/s prop,gauges, installation
$8900 with a wait of at least the end of sertember/////
willbe pricing a suzuki this week////

OR

Try and sell what I have and get some thing else
one problem is I don,t know if I want to continue in the commercial mode,[thinking of upgrading a little in size so I could add lobersters to the income or get something more suited for fishing]]

What I have is a 20.6 Midland with a leased 90hp mariner, which the dealer said he might transfer the lease
all very good electronics except radar
set up for shellfishing with a brand new pot hauler /battery
With very little effort the shellfishing equipment could be removed////////
this boat is far from quick, but is extremely sturdy and has its share of fish in it/
its rugged,I fish in and on the rocks, about 3 props a season
not many guys get so close to shore that you cast seaward[
[that gives pluggers or liveliners on both sides of the boat a fair chance] don,t worrying surfcasters I do not or never will mess up someone fishing from shore]
as most of you already know ,also hit a channel marker dead on at 4200 rpm,s and the damage was not bad for the hit it took let me know what you think thanksMike

Mike, is a midland marine the same hull as the Romarime? if you were looking to step up i,d look at a23 steiger craft, a lot of guys clamming jersey use it, the 21 old style stieger is the boat of choice in Staten island. as much as i love clamming i can see why you would like to get out of it. the last year i clammed was 96 in staten island. i know we have quite a few mutual acquintinces.

no,not the same boat, both build in RI but completely different,
there is a lot of midlands still on the water for a boat being build by one man in Coventry
yes Steiger has a good rep, yet for some reason only a few diggers have them, I have one friend that useses his real hard every day, but it looks it and hes had to do repair work because of the way he treats it///////////
Yea,43 years of digging is catching up -----------quick
but at times its great for the peace, needless to say the money

THanks for the input I really don,t know which way to go/////////////////

Mike, this is the question you need to resolve first. I'm not familiar with the Midlands, but it sounds like you are generrally happy with the hull. If you don't need to step up in size (or think the hull will suit your needs), repowering sounds good. Its not cheap, but it should give you years of hassle free operation and peace of mind (and its still cheaper than a new/good used boat ) . If you get away from digging, and you decide you really want to find something bigger or more suited for fishing, go for it! Thats a decision thats hard for me to offer an opinion on, but I will say do what you will be happy with. Good Luck

Mike - if you don't Lobster, get the 115 Suzi - almost same money and with the 4 stroke, it'll burn half the gas you use right now...

Hey I know where you can get a nice boat, with a brand new 130 Honda 4-stroke on it and it's a proven catcher.

matoonoc, yep like the hull but with the wench and gear the boat is pushing alot of weight plus losing space, now if I put my bait tank in which is VERY large then I have alot less room plus way too much weight , but large enough to serve the dual purpose of a lobster tank
then the problem of transporting the???? pots
Johns idea of increasing the hp, I don,t think it will work, this rig was never built for speed and ithink overpower would only cause damage////
I know where there are fish right now but it would take way too long in travel time. If I was in one of the s/s ponds like some of you alot of this would not be a issue because of things being different, closer, bait, block, dealers, etc.
bob, yours is great for fishing & quick enough to get to the fish, but it sure wouldn,t work out for anything else///
new boat?? my wife saw one she liked yesterday for 25k
I thought it ------,and would need at least 3k worth of extras to make it passable/

might just say screw it and look for a vintage vette ######

but just screw the whole idea and look for a vintage vette

23'.......seaox......don't makem anymore but what a beast of a boat. very wide beam, enough glass in it ta make 2 boats.

semi- v bottom quick to plane, take a nasty sea, carry lots of weight, don't need a big motor, dry as a bone. you can also run it in shallow water.

look around for a used 1. not alot of $. I think parker boats stole the hull ta copy.

a friend of mine has 1......c/c.....2-90hp/yam's......we had 6 people,12 totes of clams, gear,bah.bah. an the thing got up an went like there was nothing in it.

I had a 20' fa 18 yr's I know the boat. worked it the whole time, still going ta day, it's just down the street. everyone that saw it said boy what a nice hull...........the hull truth an nutten but.

BOAT fish do count.

Thumbs up

ya Cape, very fimilar with the hull, that would suit me just fine, few of the digger have them ,but hard to find, I know the original 18/19 couldn,t handle the daily work and those are pretty much scraped, but something like that would be just right, set up right I could still dig maybe lobster and still tow to fish the outside, cutty mv,block and my favorite ,Fishers
thanks Ill be searching as soon as I can drive// Mike

Mike,
Sounds like you really want a new boat with more flexibility than what you have now. 28, for something that meets your needs rather than spending 10 on something you'll still be unhappy with makes sense to me.

For the short term how about a trailer so you are more flexible in terms of location. While it's slow your boat is seaworthy and rides well, you'll spend less time dragging the boat to the fish than motoring.

Mike, my brother-in-law has a '71 Corvette LS5 454 4 speed in storage. He has a few other sweet muscle cars too. He says now is a good time to buy with the crap economy.

Mike, they keep the C-Skiffs in the lot on the left side of the marina. I recomend you talk to John - nice guy. Overall the service at that place is fair at best but their the only dealer in town. My Suzuki dealer is thinking of selling them next season.

$6000

Dang Clammer, here's another "project" for you. All you need to do is sell the pair of under performing, work needed 150 outboards for 3-4K (someone would by 'em). Cleanup the hull, throw a 200 Yami on for 9K , some sweat equity ....

Yeh, I know, I figure if I got something like that in winter, I'd miss the herring run for certain but I'dcatch next year's MSBA Tourney with live macs in late June...

Where to get an EFI Yami for 9K? VX 200 EFI (not an HPDI but that would be an extra 1500 or so) http://www.edsmarinesuperstore.com/yamaha.htm 8K +1K for rigging and an experienced fella to help - figure 300 to ground ship, no more. The Internet can be a truly wonderful thing.

Of course, those pics look like she's seen the bottom closer than any depth finder

Steve, I can't and won't do anything until my wife is comfortable in a job. That's priority #1... Unless we hit the biggun

Good luck this week Clammer, AND DON"T STRESS YOURSELF or my wife will come over and kick yer A$$
