The herring that you're buying in stores is probably Atlantic, or sea, herring.

They're not covered by the ban.

As Mike P said they are Sea Herring. They will fall apart very fast. Better off with mackerel.

Good health and family

I saw some whole squid there that was fresh. Will these work the same as the ones at the bait store or do they clean out too much of the gunk that the fish like?

the same and sometimes cheaper....unless you get fresh squid

Get a jig and fish dock areas with lights. Messy critters shooting ink.

Good health and family

yeah I know a cheap grocery store that sells fresh squid will have to pick some out and give them a whirl on the old bait runner

Hello All, I am also a newbie to this Board. Love reading everyone's opinions and suggestions. I can learn alot from ya'all. Thanks.
Anyway, I used store brought Squids (California Whole Squid) at the Canal. First toss got me a Striper. Not sure how big it was as I do not have a tape to measure it with. Had to release it before it die on me. Did have a photo of the fish though, still waiting for my Bro's GF to send it over. Also caught Skates, and Dog Fish on the squid at te Canal. I will try both Mackeral and Squid next Friday. Store Squid works very well. I might try that tomorrow at Wolleston beach, I read that the Blues are in the area. Never caught one b4, any suggestions? Low tide, High tide, incoming or out going tides?
thanks for all suggestions. Have a good weekend.. good fishing all.
