Go to Albie flies.

What are your go to albie flies? Had a shot at them recently and there were peanuts and large silversides in the water.
I know it might have been presentation as they are so fast that you must time your cast perfectly to get it in front of them. That being said what has worked most consistently for you?

With FA's nothing is consistent. What crushes them one day often doesn't get a sniff the next. I start with matching the hatch, sort of, and then go from there.

That's very true, if possible keep several different patterns available and rigged up if you have the opportunity to run with different flies on different outfits.

One day small clousers may work great, and that is usually my go to fly, but the next it may be a bonito bunny, soft epoxy anchovie fly or the next a surf candy ...

... other times it's the leader too, I have had to scale down on diameter of leader - starting with 20# flouro in early morning, low-light conditions to scale down to 15 or even 12 if it's a high sun and the heavier leaders are not working.

And just be sure to have your fly in the water, you will never catch anything by waiting for the perfect shot, they move fast and often will pass the boat without you knowing.

2-3" (no bigger) chartruse over white deciever, tied full, on a 1/0, with three lines of lead wire wrapped on the shank first. Don't retrieve it too fast. Works consistently year after year when they are on peanuts.

I use a small white bucktail slim profile with a little flash tied in on a 1/0 hook.

Why the Bonito Bunny fly of course. The other fly that comes to mind is the Seabiscut which was a favorite of the owner of the old fly shop on 6A in Barnstable. I have taken Albies with that one time in particular I was drifting just outside the entrance to the southway off south beach and casting for stripers when I saw this green flash and then a boil right where my fly was.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....hundred yards of line later I am hooked due east with boats heading in and out of the southway...oh boy ...then the rascal heads due west just as fast.....here he comes.... he's getting closer oh oh he's heading right for the boat now what the.....under the boat he goes....don't touch that blank to the rail or it's history...a quick hand off under the bow and we are connected straight again whew... a short while later he's doing spins boat side...oh and forgot to mention the knot in the shooting line that got blasted thru the snake guides at warp speed....

What do you want to mess with those fish for anyway

Are they a secret or can you let us others in on it?

Best regards,

A very small surf candy
small popper/crease fly
some sort of weighted fly, clouser or jiggy
not necessarily in that order

can you fly fish for them from the shore

has anyone caught them from the shore, or is this exclusively a boater game. I heard that there might be a place on the shore in Waterford CT, but it is a toss up being there at the right time.
