Fished a shore area this past weekend, both at the incoming and outflow. I was not alone, there were quite a few nearby. Although I'd guess just about everything imaginable was either tossed from shore, flicked from a fly-stick, or lobbed into the stream flow, I saw nothing caught. This from a previously addressed area that fish are there for the taking. Has the "burned" finatics gotten to others to make up stories to just get the seldom ones to take stake where it's not productive? I joined for help. Guess I had the wrong idea.

fish have fins....don't chase old reports.....it takes lots of time and effort to make a spot work...sometimes seasons....many a good folk on here, but I doubt someone is gonna put you on fish right off the bat....

I've never done well over the years chasing reports. Do like Slingah says. You have to go on your instincts, learn all the intricasies of an area, and know how to work it. I have several consistant spots (I'm quite certain one is right near you Slingah) and even after years of fishing these spots, things change from season to season. Sometimes you have to relearn a spot every year.
Just study an area and keep at it. You'll find what works. What, when, where, how. Keep working it.

I once told someone where 20 & 30 pound fish were the night before - the guy went - got skunked, and called me a liar.

As someone who has frequently showed up a day late, that happens.

Sounds like you were at a inlet, not many better places to be this time of year than a dropping inlet... Keep at it - if it was easy it would not be so worth it

I read the fishing reports for my area and 1/10 times end up where they say the fish are. Most of those times, I do good when I hear the spots reported sucked. Chasing reports will get you where the fish were but remember they are migratory fish...

Maybe someone pissed in my cheerios this morning, maybe I'm in post vacation blues or something... but this is the kind of sarcastic comment that drives me away from the site.

Dude, there are tons of people willing to offer help, but what they probably won't do is hold your hand. The shore fishing spots around an area like Boston are so limited, that it would be totally ridiculous for someone to post locations where thousands of people can see them and then all show up the next night.

Doesn't that make sense? Why does this have to come up over and over and over and over...

Receiving help is telling you what type of rod and reel to buy for certain applications. What types of lures are best in different conditions or around certain structure. How best to match the local bait (match the hatch) with different lures/plastics/flies. They will give you opinions on their favorite waders, dry tops, surf bags, boats, motors, kayaks, sonar, gps, radio, on and on. They will tell you their favorite tides, moon phases, and weather. They will even describe their favorite types of structure, whether its rocks, sandbars, weedlines, or flats.

Isn't this any help to you. This is tremendous help.

I was one of the original few on this site. I was relatively new to the sport when John started things up. I've learned a ton over the years from people here and not one time did that involve someone telling me a specific spot to fish.

I know this is the most overdone topic on this board, but unlike the comm vs rec arguments or the boat vs shore or big fish vs. just having fun, etc., which can be fun, or even the pissing contests, the spot topic is STUPID and serves ZERO purpose.

And getting pissy about it after a night where you caught no fish serves even less than zero purpose other than alienating people who might otherwise be willing to help you out.

Help is not drawing a map to X that marks the spot, telling you which tide, what lure and when it fishes best in what weather. That is hand holding.

I've had plenty of people share spots with me over the years, but it was after years of building friendships and trust. Not in one post on the internet.

Fishing is all about patience, enjoy the process of learning.

Bill, there where tons of bass and blues in the harbor monday. The mass of birds and fish was impressive. It was great, because the fishing in Nantucket last week was awful. I had my dad out monday and we cleaned up.

Bass were not big, but when they started it was fun. I saw a few nicer fish come up under fish we had on.

I'd tell you were they were (different rules for boaters), but they may swim a little by the time the weekend comes

To Schoolie Monster... I agree whole-heartedly.
I will be willing to pass on information that has worked for me, but I always add a caution that you have to put in your time. I wasn't always the "lucky" fisherman who happened upon a school of cows, I did my homework. You have to get out and try different spots, not because you read somewhere that it's a hot spot, or because you heard someone mention it somwhere, but because like most of us, you want to try someplace new and see if you were right.
In my case, it may just be trying a spot that most people think is either unfishable or undesirable.
The key thing is that like snowboarding, the learning curve is great. The more you do it, the better you get, and then you'll be on the "teaching" end and know what we've been talking about.

The best thing that was ever taught to me is, if going to a new place or you have a limited time there , "Hire a Guide" By doing this he will show and teach you things you might not even think of.

No one here is going to lie or perpetuate a lie about the location of fish. Anyone here worth thier salt isn't going to post a location or burn a spot......ever. That said, it takes longer than 17 posts, and I hope you stick around for 1700 posts, to glean useful spot info here. If you need to know how to, or what with, ask and you shall receive.
