What do you think of it?
I have been TiVoing this and catching some of the shows. Interesting or should I say different fishing/reality concept I guess. I have noticed a few odd things that bothered me.
I know they are all fly-guys for the most part but there was a scene where some were trying to throw a cast net and they really SUCKED! It was clear they never picked one up before. IMO there should be some test beyond the CG exam to call yourself a fishing guide. That is the entire problem with being a guide...you just one day think enough of yourself to call yourself one. If you can't catch bait you really have no right calling yourself a fishing guide, Even if you are a fly guide. It is a basic fishing skill. (Again..just my Opinion) One thing I wanted to know was..if he actually caught bait, what would he do with it? Probably watch it all die.

There was a guy fishing with one of them that they called an "expert" and was a favorite to win a contest they were in and they clearly meant it, however the guy was fishing with a spinning reel upside down and the handle on the wrong side. It was painful to watch him land an albi with a spinning rod arching guides up. He looked like a goon and the capt didn't seem to even notice.
The one show where it almost came to blows actually made turn off the show and watch Charlie Moore. That entire thing was stupid and they should take that english/ausi capt lic away forever IMO. Any capt who actually goes looking for another fishermen to "rips his f'in lungs out" (I don't care the reason) should be remove from the fishing scene. He was lucky one of the hard core NY or NJ guys didn't take a shot across his bow.
Someone asked me if you could fish with any one of the guides on that show which one would you select.
At first I said...none of them! but after thinking about it I would pick either Capt Amanda or the short dark haired guy, they both seem pretty normal, a little tightly wound up at times but somewhat normal...probably Amanda because I like fishing with women and I think she tries hard but she is a little bit of a whimp when it comes to rough water.
That English chap disturbs me. I almost want to run him down!
The older guy Paul seems OK but he appears lost at times.
Also, they zoom in too close to his face.. TMI! I don't need to see all that skin detail so early in the morning!
The guy with longer dark hair seems to need an attitude adjustment at times.
He is always at odds with the English guy.
The weirdest thing is how excited they get over a schoolie. I like something pulling on the line as much as the next fishermen but a "great day of fishing" is not a half dozen short fish. It just isn't. I agree you can have a great day and not catch a thing but you know what I mean...
Also, I wonder if they break rods on purpose? There is simply NO NEED to put that much pressure on a fly rod to break it on a 28" bass or 25" albi, this is not a Mako shark or Giant Tuna. I understand rods do break at tmes but they should not break anywhere as often as they do on that show.
All that annoying stuff said...I still watch it. It has an appeal to me for some reason. Must be the familiar area.
