Gelcoat repair

Anyone had to repair gouges on their boat?

I saw some West marine products, but have no experience with
gelcoat repairing.

Think i should try myself or take it to a pro??

Any suggestions?

Sounds good, I intend to repair once I'm out of the water for the season and of course b4 wrapping it up for the winter.

I will take you up on that offer. I got one pretty deep gouge just under the gunwale. Also a few deep scratches here and there.

im in the same boat got a brand new boat went out by myself in plymouth when i came in an older gentleman said i hold that fer ya whiles ya git the trailer i said ok come back boats bouncing off jettys he says this here boat got to weigh 6000 lbs couldnt hold her fer ya lol i allmost cried all kinds of chips in gel coat got to find out what to do myself with damage another question i have is portable garage better than shrink wrap for winter storage dont have enough for permanant so i seen one of these nice garages in avon looks good and sturdy i can just back boat in and then have extra storage what do you thinks better!!!!

Bummer for your boat damage. I guess you just can't rely on anyone to take the care that you would. I had a guy tell me at the boat ramp that he was going to 'BUMP" me. When I looked up his stern was swinging towrads the side of my boat with his engine up. That skeg would have done alot more than 'bump" my boat. I got there in time and kicked his boat back over. Hope he liked that!!!!

I a bit confused, you are saying you have a portable?
Does it keep the weather out? Are all sides enclosed?

The permanent... is it a place you have to bring yourt boat, or is
it something you bring home?

Having access to the boat over the winter would be something I would live to have ie.. an enclosure I can get in. So I can do lots of those jobs on it when the weather isn't so bad.

the portables are on key words portable garages on puter look at them they look nice put a light in there small heater you have a decent garage the size im looking at is 12wx24lx8h plenty of room they come in all sizes and are warrenty for 5 years shrink wrap i hear 20.00 a foot x 20fter 400.00 x 5 years 2000.00 compared to 699.00 for this tent like garage hmmmmmm!!!! i just dont know the process of winterizing a boat first time owning one so i really dont know whats better by the way howd ya do this weekend with tuna real choppy down newport way didnt go out far at all caught alot of skates lol!!!

That is sweet. I wish i had room for one of those.

What i did was build an A frame and I reuse it every year.

i spent the money for a good tarp, black one side/silver other.
that was about 80$. covers the whole boat and bungie cord and tie it down.

I winterize the power myself also, its really easy and cheap.

I don't have room anywhere around here, so i leave it at my buddies house in Plymouth.

DAMN TUNA !!!!

I found them on saturday, had one nice hit then NADA.
On the way home I saw them near Minots lights thrashing on top.

WHAT A SIGHT. But alas....no tuna....

Wne out for a short while Sunday just to see if they were there. NOPE.....

This weekends looking crappy with the remanats of that hurricane so i probably hang around with the wife/family and fill the cookie jar..

I think its her birthday or something too !!!

i think everyone has an acre to put one of these things on i forget what its like in the city have relatives in the neck im from raynham now lots of land to put one of these up so this is what you would go with

I called one of those companies yesterday to get a quote for a round style enclosure for a 23 outrage on a trailer. About $2000.00 with shipping. Includes two zippers front and back so that I can drive through it. Front and back covered. Thats a lot of shrink wrap if you consider about 10.00 a foot for shrink wrap/ year.

there is a place in avon mass right off of 24 harrison ave exit has one set up and onsale its in the avon industrial park 699.00 if you want them to set it up 200.00 more but looks like 2 guys can put one up solid back zippered front been looking online for cheaper price i have a 20ft boat so with trailer i would need something longer to put whole thing in and zipper so they charge by the size it looks nice and sturdy and heavy tarp for covering so 10.00ftx23=230.00 for shrink wrap per year 5 years 1150.00 and then you tear it off thiscan be used year round just wash boat and put it away i need one cause of pine trees`during spring and summer i got it sitting in middle of yard now out in open
