reels

Ok I sold my Calcutta 400b because it was uncomfortable reeling with my right hand so I decided to go with a left handed retrieve but Calcutta doesn't have a left handed in the 400. I think distance is a big factor and a levelwind also any thoughts.

I looked into a lefty Calcutta 400 series, found a 401, which is their lefty..... for only 50% more than the righty 400 I passed, and am enjoying each cast with a VS 200

Unless you're competitive distance casting, I feel that the difference in distance between levelwind vs. non-levelwind is negligible. Not something that most would consider a detriment for most fishing applications. I find laying the line on a non-levelwind reel second nature, but when plugging, sometimes it's nice to have that levelwind feature.
The one downside that I can cite with levelwind reels, is that little bit of extra maintenance required to keep the mechanisms functioning properly (mostly pawls wearing out). Any issues with extra maintenance are typically easy to deal with.
