anyone fish the harbor lately? hey Van you been out. i am thinking about going out tonight and drift some eels. i will decide later on in the day how the weather looks.

I have not been out for a while. Weather's been too snotty.

I am planing on Sunday, today looks good as was yesterday.
I hope sunday is good.

i am going to scout around sunday, fish a while, run the boat at WOT to clean off the hull, then pull it...
When do you come out. Do ou have a trailer????

I'm done, too much other stuff going on for the next couple of weekends anyway.

Then smelt fishing.

the smelt are here! I got 73 saturday afternoon at Marina Bay. Good Luck! I'll be at B-buoy tomorrow morning trying my luck at cod, then moving in closer to see if there is a leftover bass.

I tried to get out today, but the wind was too fierce and
once i passed through the gut. I said the hell with this and went back inside.

Pulled the boat after that, so no more reports from me.
I am gearing up for the smeltin' this week.

It was too rough out there today, we got tossed around but managed to fish a few spots without much luck.
I guess it's about that time to put the boat away.

never made it out friday due to other commitments that i forgot about and i think i am with you guys and going to pull the boat this week.
Van yes i have a trailor for the boat and i store it on the trailor,shrink wrapped for the winter. oh well it has been a productive fishing year for allot of people i have heard over the summer on this site.

I did pull the boat yesterday. All looked good.
The new bottom paint held up really well. A friend at the marina thought it was amazing how well it held up. A garden hose (with good pressure) took off the thin layer of slime, and for the most part I should not need to repaint next year.
Winterize the power, and put the frame on saturday.
Sunday take it to my buddies house and tarp it for hibernation.

IT IS SPRING YET ??????? I can't wait.

Boating season is too short around here !!!!!!!

Kav we never did meet up out there, how bout' next year. I think i am going to switch to another marina next season.

Van, i would of liked to meet up out there. i am sure i will be out there next year. i am picking up a new truck today and now i will have the power to take my boat to florida if i want to. what marina are you looking into. i was in bay point for two years and was happy with them but it is expensive compared to the yacht club i am in now.

It is the fishing capital of the country, never a dull monent.

I have fished there a few times.
Last year was Key West for Tarpon.

I am going to Tampa next month and I'll get at least one trip in.

As for marinas, I'm not sure just yet, but I am going to start looking as early as possible and hopefully I'll get a good spot.
I looked at Captians cove yesterday and noticed how narrow it is between docks.

What kind of truck did you get?
I have an F-150 and it has plenty of power for pulling. My boat trailers like breeze.

Its kinda funny how you make all these big plans prior to and during the season, then it goes so fast.

We definitely have to have some kind of informal tourny/get-together next season. Other than FW & BC and Got Stripers, who I've known for several years, I really didn't hook up with anyone out there.

As for putting away the boat, the advantage of trailering and storing in my garage, is that my boat is always available. I'll drag the boat down to CT for some holdovers and try some cod fishing once the fish are inshore (weather permitting)... BUT...

It isn't the same. And you're right Van... its way too short.

Seems like I was just goin' crazy waiting for the season to start.

found live bait inside and out but could not find a bass

The days of gettiing easy bass are over

I think there still here but the WIND killed the fall run for me.

Van if you call capt. cove after nov. 1st
the dock master can tell you about open spots.

Nov. 1st is the dead line for folks that are there now to hold there spot.

Time get out the surf rod

it hurts just to say it

and to think I got my best bass from the beach

I looks really narrow between the docks, tough to turn a bigger boat I would think.

How do you like it?

And yes it is tight in there. I had to keep a 24 inch ball on my port side one year to keep the guy next to me from hitting my boat

The guy next to me now is good at docking.
I guess it's a crap shoot

I will be there next year.

Time to upgrade how about A new 24 walk with the HARD top

I know wake up and smell the coffie....

I went to a harbor Sunday, but it took me 1-1/2 hours to get there, so it's safe to say it wasn't Boston

. Caught more rat (too damn small for my liking, but it's early) stripers than you could shake a stick at, a dozen or so 8-12 lb blues and one monster 40+ inch something. Just when I'd worked her close enough to say sh*t I'm in trouble (8.8 lb test, 2000 series reel, light rod) even after spending 5-10 minutes getting her close, I see 3 twins swimming beside...snap and gone. I think bass, too damn long to be a blue, and the fight was too bass like. Would have been sweet to land a 20-30 lber on that light line, but it was fun none the less. I was hoping to get into some hickory shad and although I found some feeding, I could get any bites. What would people that fish for them regularly classify as the top 3 lure choices, I'd like to be better prepared next time down.

try a sabiki with something shiny on the end like a crippled herring or kastmaster. if your baiting up use the sabiki for multiples if not just use the kastmaster alone works just as well. cast, troll, or jig depending on the situation. where abouts were you to see these monster baits?

I saw some birds working hard yesterday morning along wollaston beach... nothing in the evening and nothing this morning.

I'm sure if you could put in some time, there's still fish around, but I have to agree about the wind. Its kept me off the water alot this fall. I'm just tired of fighting with it.

I don't think I've seen winds under 15-20mph since the first weekend in sept.

Wollaston Beach is in Quincy, MA... Quincy Shore Drive runs along the whole length of it. From shore, the main two areas people fish are the extreme south and north ends. The south end has a pond/creek (black's creek) that dumps out and is a very popular spot.

I think its mainly a schoolie spot and it gets fished alot. I have fished it from shore and caught small fish.

There's a park at the north end and at the top of the tide, its fishable for a few hours. The water floods some rocks and a mud flat.

The beach itself is pretty flat and shallow and doesn't have alot of structure. For whatever reason, Quincy Bay fills up with peanut bunker late in the season and there are usually alot of fish around. I saw busting fish and birds on my drive to and from work alot of days this fall, but only a couple times were they within casting distance.

Is it a good spot from shore? I don't really know. I fish the whole bay by boat there were alot of blues and schoolies around most of the season. It has access though with parking that extends most of the way, so that's good.

Sorry, just looked and it looks like your from RI, so I don't think I'd recommend making the trip to fish

There are a few better spots down there.

Can I just say Boston Harbor is loaded with cod?
A buddy and I went out this morning on my boat and hit our limit on cod using jigs and clams. The smallest were 10 inches which hit jigs bigger than them and the largest one we got was just shy of 34 inches. The ocean was nice and smooth with an occasion roller. Though cod don't quite fight like bass or blues but this time of the year, I'll take it as a blessing to still be fishing and reeling in fish.

Van, we gotta hook up and get out there or I'll see ya on the docks for some more smelt.

I went smelting a week ago and got a skunk.

I am heading to florida (hope to do some fishing there) for 9 days (leaving sat AM.), so I wont be around for two weekends.

Keep in touch though and I have not forgotten to let you know about the downriggers I have.

Have you been smelting??

Nah, no smelting here as of late. Just the thought of getting out on my boat now and then when the weather cooperates has got me out of the smelt mode.
I'm hoping for a few more indian summer days.

I'll try to catch up with you on the weekend when I get back. I'll be in L.A. for a few days.

btw, the cod bellies were bursting with crabs, that might be a good bait to use.

mako, where you inside the harbor? say not past deer or were you out by the B-bouy. my friend has a boat and we found somespots around deer that were sure will hold cod sometime this winter. hes waiting for a not absolutely freezing non-windy day so he can put in.

Check out Boston Ledge, North Channel around Graves and around B-buoy. I haven't fished the Deer Island area.......... water seems to shallow. I might be heading out early early early on turkey-day.
