Try Yankee supply in Johnston, RI. They had 8" channel for real cheap money...

Are you using it for a header over a window or door? Or a trailer?

thats why they call it fishing not catching

Tom,
Make sure you know if you want H or I beam !
I'm going to guess you will put a trolley on the beam for a hoist .
Some trolleys take H beams.
I have a 30ft 5in h beam up in my garage that has a 3/4 horse electric hoist on it, it's nice when I need to lift anything and to be able to roll it in either direction.

Turn an H on it's side and it's an I! lol Just kidding I'm sure there are differences.

Though you might be making a boom for your boat to haul in the BIG one.

[QUOTE=Fish On;480259]Turn an H on it's side and it's an I! lol Just kidding I'm sure there are differences.

An H beam has square 90 degree edges
An I bean has angled edges ! thicker towards the center and tapering in thickness towards the outside!

Depending on your intentions an I beam is the better choice if your using a trolley for a chain hoist. You can use an H but most trolleys at least the ones I am familiar with have angled wheels made to ride to taper of an I beam vice an H.

I installed an 24 foot run for a hoist about 6 years ago using an H instead of an I, it works but I rather the I but I had H at the time.
